Spent much longer here than we expected to. Interesting museum plus a small cafe. Friendly staff. Outside walkway around the top and a short walk down to the river Esk.

We enjoyed our visit staff were very friendly and cheery. The tower was filled with interesting displays lots to see and learn about. The Steel Bonnets were here when we visited and this made for an entertaining day. There's also a lovely Riverside walk next to the tower. And it's also dog friendly which is a huge bonus.

This place is amazing, so glad we came to visit today, one of the very few places open in the area. We was met by a lovely man called John so helpful and his knowledge about Scotland is amazing to say he is not a native, it only costs £6 per person and will worth it, the money that has been invested to restore must have cost a fortune, the views are superb from the top. If your around the area stop in, you can always just have a coffee and support the business.

Absolutely the best place to start, as you commence your journey into the mediæval Scottish Borders! One of the most important tower houses of the time, occupied by the notorious Armstrong family, it was the centre of many famous events in the lives of the Border Reivers. Completely renovated now, it's full of fascinating historical artefacts relating to the clan, including one descendent who walked on the Moon! The staff are happy to tell you all you need to know; there are regular events throughout the summer. Great for kids too!
