We parked at the Midgehole upper car park, unbeknownst to us, there was a car park a bit closer. Nevertheless, we parked, donned our sun cream, hats and picnic and set off to the Mill via the riverside walk.
Lovely walk in which you could spend a couple of hours meandering through the forest, playing by the river and spotting wildlife. Not a walk for those with bad knees or who may struggle with mobility (the walk was suggested to be a easy-moderate walk, we were pooped by the end!). There is a tarmacked road which would suit wheelchair/pushchair users however, but a lot of this was uphill going to the mill.
We would've carried on to the waterfall, but the heat and how tored we were from the riverwalk, we decided to leave it for another day.
The mill itself was closed for a private function, which was a shame, however the cafe and bookshop(?) was still open for public access - not a large selection of drinks in the cafe though. Lots of seating available outside for picnics etc.
Toilets were interesting; very small stalls, but reasonably maintained.
Lovely views and all in all, a good day out in nature.

Hardcastle Craggs and Gibson Mill are great for a day out. Walks in woods with stepping stones across river. Cafe staff very friendly. Second-hand books on sale. Parking available. A great place to visit if enjoy country walks and fresh air.

Nice walk to get to the cafe/mill, but the mill was basically empty. 1 room with information boards talking about species of fungi. The Cafe was welcoming yet quite pricey.

Excellent place for walkers. However the building itself is really only for outside admiration as it contains very little by way of things to visit. Overall interesting place but not for us due to limitations on the walking side with some member’s of our group.

Beautiful place to visit. This really is an outstandingly wonderful place to go walking, particularly if you follow the course of the river which will lead you to the wonderful old mill and its Mill Pond. There is also a great little cafe alongside the old mill which serves some very tasty hot and cold snacks as well as a good range of soft drinks to fuel you up ready for some more exploring
Well worth a visit!

Walking from Hebden Bridge, there is a nice circular walk up to Gibson Mill. Alternatively, there are 2 smallish car parks at the gates to the National Trust managed site that are accessed by small roads that can get 'blocked up' easily on approach. Gibson Mill itself, is a reached by then walking approx 1 mile via either a river side path or a dirt, vehicle track or a higher elevation path through the woods (the least walked!). Which ever option you take, we took the river side path outwards and the high elevation path back, the destination is often the historic mill. Some people go beyond the Mill to 'the crags' or further on the Blake Dean, where the path loops round a returns to the Mill. The Mill itself, acts as both a museum and cafe. The cafe offers typical, limited drinks and food. Many people seemed to take their own picnic and eat this on the grassy patches by the river. Toilets are available at both near the car park and at the Mill.

Well it's a walker's paradise! Situated in the heart of the Hardcastle Crag, it's a 35-40 min walk at an incline to reach this gorgeous vintage mill.
It has a beautiful picnic spot, public amenities and hidden nature walks around it ..
The walking routes are stony but doable and perfect for people who are comfortable walking long distances as I don't think there are any benches along the route .. you can take your furry friends along ! There's no entry fees but there's a 5/- charge for parking vehicles . except for the cafe , there's no other dinning option so pack your food if you're looking for a lot of variety.
