I visited as part of a large group, due to the size of the party and being prearranged we had a section of the pub to ourselves, however as it was a beautiful day somewhere of us chose to sit outside in the nice garden.

Despite a few wasps about the garden space was lovely, with both plenty of seats, and ample shade.

I had a hobgoblin IPA for myself, and there was a decent selection on tap, and something for everyone to drink.

Despite being on the main road through town the garden was quiet, so it was very relaxing.

Also a dog friendly pub too!

This comes up on Googlemaps as a 5 star hotel, which I don’t think it is, but I would give it 5 stars for value for money.

We booked directly through the George Inn website and, with a promotion they were running, got a premium double for £99. There was plenty of space, tea and coffee, comfortable bed and decent bathroom. A bottle of water would have been a nice addition. The WiFi didn’t work in the room, only downstairs.

If you want to have dinner in the village, there’s only a couple of options so you need to book in advance. We eat at the George and the servers were attentive and friendly. The food was good but the chef had tried to be inventive without adding much to the dish. Samphire doesn’t need prawns when served with fish and chips and halloumi didn't work in the frittata (carrot in bubble and squeak was unexpected). Overall we enjoyed the meal.

Breakfast was excellent with a good selection.

All the staff were really good and we received a lovely welcome when we arrived. The pub was popular with a nice atmosphere. Overall a great place for an overnight stay.

I found the George more or less by chance, and I'm glad I did. They're a very charming bunch and I had a lovely night. Room is a good size, bed very comfortable and bathroom very clean. There was a pretty good band playing when I arrived, the place was absolutely packed with happy people. All very sensible happy people though as they all toddled off home at a not-at-all-unreasonable hour 😉

Lovely village pub. The setting was perfect for a long walk in the area.
The pub, staff and rooms were exceptional.
We asked for the loaded chips as a post-walk snack and it did not disappoint, it was massive and we scoffed the lot, the espresso martinis stopped from falling asleep after the loaded chips. Dinner and the English fry up for breakfast hit the spot. Will definitely go back again.

My sisters and I had a wonderful stay at The George last week. We occupied all the rooms, which were well decorated, comfortable and clean. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast and the staff were really friendly and helpful. They also sent on an item I'd left behind quickly and free of charge. I would highly recommend staying here.

We popped in to The George for Sunday Lunch today . We are local , yet hadn’t eaten in here since it changed hands some while back . We had an excellent experience from the moment we arrived. The service was excellent as was the beer and wine . However the stand out feature was the absolutely delicious Sunday Roast. We both ordered the Pork and chicken combination with all the trimmings and the food was very tasty and the portion was very generous, great Yorkshire pudding and lovely crispy crackling on the pork . So our compliments go to the the young ( in comparison to us ! ) chef , Jake . We definitely won’t leave it so long before returning!
