I have known and worked with Mark since 2008 and over the past 2 years have worked closely with him and his business 'Experience South West Tours' with inbound tour operators and media that I often work with, who come via Visit Britain or from tour operators / agents who I have met at overseas trade shows.

His exceptional knowledge on all manner of subjects from historical, geological and geographical is encyclopedic, particularly for everywhere in Devon, but also beyond such as the Cotswolds and Scotland. With Mark Lakeman as our guide, we traversed the Dartmoor National Park on a day which exemplified the wind-swept, barren yet elegiac landscape surrounding Postbridge, our gateway to the moors and highlands. Yet despite this haunting vista, the people here in Dartmoor were relentlessly cheerful and most affable, ceaselessly smiling, the food sumptuous, and the British ale most piquant and refreshing. Our expert and articulate guide, Mark Lakeman, knew so well every curve and corner in the cramped sheep paths masquerading as roads, and every proprietor where we stopped, and Mark would regale us along the journey with countless, entertaining anecdotes about geography, places, history, fables, mysteries, prior civilizations, languages and cultures, and an array of other amusing tales, medieval history or fascinating facts. Despite the sodden weather, it was a day most clement, made most enjoyable by the company you keep, and Mark Lakeman was the VERY BEST tour guide for our few days in Dartmoor.
