I am a 60yr+ Freestyle skier, ERV are one the few companies that would cover me for amateur competition, in April 2017 I had my worst ( & only serious ) crash from a 12mtr jump. I was briefly unconscious , dislocated my shoulder, broke 4 ribs & punctured my lung, I was treated in 2 different Swiss hospitals over the course of 10days. I communicated with ERV & they helped me every step of the way even accommodating my wish to travel home by train ( flying not allowed due to lung condition) with my wife rather than a 14hr+ ambulance journey. I kept careful records of all expenses & waiting some months for all the Swiss bills to arrive & then ERV settled everything promptly with no fuss even paying for my wife's trip out to come and accompany me home. I was extremely grateful for the care and the professional service.

Please to not book your travel insurance with ERV. The only good feedback is from customers who have been lucky enough not to make a claim. And majority of people who have tried making a legiment claim have failed. On the 1st of October my flight was cancelled and I was delayed by 13 hours coming back from Dubai. When I got back I attempted to make a claim, the only way to do this was to print out forms of the website and then send them off with original tickets etc. A few weeks later I received a letter stating ERV are unable to consider my claim due to the travel delay being on a inbound journey. I took a insurance policy out to cover the duration of the trip until I reached home. So I attempted to call, the telephone line was very poor and also they had a technical problem getting onto my details. So I had to wait for a call back when their systems were working properly. I eventually got a call back telling me my inbound journey is not covered under section 57. The 40 page policy wording I was e-mailed goes Upto section 15. So I e-mailed to get more information on my claim and I have had no reply. So please do not get your travel insurance with this company. Please read the reviews of the people who have attempted to make a claim and not just the people who have taken a policy out.

In my experience ERV are an outrageous bunch of charlatans who should have their licence withdrawn. They will try every dirty trick in the book to avoid paying out on a legitimate claim, including putting the phone down on you or seeking to make you feel like an idiot by adopting a condescending tone when you query their spurious decisions not to pay out. Their 55 page schedule includes every get out of jail free clause you could imagine - it would make Houdini proud.

When I had to cancel my holiday because my dad died 3 days before our departure date they rejected my claim out of hand after initially asking me to provide all manner of paperwork. Their crocodile tears about ‘ regretting to have to ask at this time if distress’ added insult to injury. It became very clear very quickly that they don’t give a flying stuff about anything or anyone - their prime objective is to reject all claims regardless of the circumstances.

Having rejected my claim they effectively told me to sod off and take it up with the ombudsman if I was unhappy. I did this, and when the ombudsman initially found in my favour they rejected his decision too and asked for me to go back to my late father’s GP for a THIRD time to ask for his medical records for the previous 2 years. I did this reluctantly, and 8 months on the ombudsman has again found in my favour and awarded the payment plus £250 for the grief, stress and inconvenience that ERV caused by blocking and disputing the process every step of the way.

Words fail me when I try to express the complete and utter contempt I feel towards ERV and their truly despicable ‘business model’. They are a total disgrace and bring the insurance industry into disrepute. Don’t buy anything from them. You would only be lulling yourself into a false sense of security. Their policy is worth less than a 100 lire note.

So I got a travel insurance from ERV paid about £13. So for my return flight which was connecting in Delhi, i missed it due to the domestic airline landing late. I even had a delay letter issued by the airline. I was stuck at Delhi airport for 5 hours until I could be booked onto a next flight. I filed a claim as it wasn't my fault, etc. My claim was rejected. I would strongly advise to avoid ERV travel insurance. Basically i got a travel insurance for no reason! I provided all the evidence and it still got rejected. I rather donate that £13 to a charity.

Contrary to the reviews I've just noticed here, I' m really impressed. I took out exceptionally cheap travel insurance with this company and suffered a broken tooth whilst on holiday in the Canaries. I wasn't even going to claim, the Spanish dentist advised that I should do and by simply completing their online form I had received a payment, in full, within 10 days. Thank you ERV, will certainly use you again!

It took me nearly two weeks to get hold of the person who deals with park & pipe ski policies as they never return calls. I went ahead as i could only find one other company providing this insurance. When the worst happened, it was fairly easy to get my son flown back, however, nobody bothered to translate the medical report which only said investigation for possible fracture, so he was flown home only to find that there was no fracture (opinion of two separate maxillofacial surgeons, an orthodontist and his usual dentist who all agreed he could go straight back). He lost nearly six weeks of his training time as they won't insure him in future for any facial or dental injury as they say the non-existant fracture cannot have healed. And don't get me started on the number of "urgent" emails and messages i left when he had the accident, which never received a reply. I've only just begun the claims paperwork, so will have to add to this when i know the full outcome. I just hope it's not as bad as my experience so far seems.

I have had very good experience with ERV so far, and I hope that it will stay like that. I had a journey to Indonesia and ended up with food poisoning, and a £400 worth of medical bill! I have asked ERV whilst still abroad what they needed for the claim, which they advised me with promptly. As soon as I got home, sent all original documents required and got my money back that covered that enormous bill within a week! No hassle or headache. Well done!

I should have read these reviews before signing up with this company. They declined to pay for a shredded tire, which is fine as this was mentioned in the list of things that are not covered.
Then I didn't get any confirmation that my claim had been received when I filed it via email. One week later, I asked for information on my case: they told me they needed 2 to 3 weeks to process a case and said that their email system doesn't allow them to send automatic responses... Then they refused to pay 50 Aus $ that were deducted from the rental car company's retainer for a cable I broke. The insurance insisted that the receipt mentioning the deduction as "Claims parts" was not enough for them to pay me back, though I told them at least twice that I didn't have a specific bill for this cost. We are talking of 50 Australian $ for a premium of 531.- CHF.
I work in an insurance myself and don't understand that they can be so finicky for such a small amount. It was my first and last time with them.
