We loved it here. No parking for motorhomes. You need to park at the Ponds across the village and walk back. There is parking for other cars. You get an audio guide included with the ticket price which was £10 when we went in June. It was a funny audio guide and very informative. The castle itself is super interesting and worth a visit.

Here I found that coconuts do migrate. Also great castle, many rooms to explore and they even make it interactive in one section where you can try on some clothes from specific time periods. Highly recommend going through a tour. I believe Not really wheelchair friendly.

Cute castle outside of Stirling. Had to make a visit since we are Monty Python fans. Sad the scaffolding ruined our plans to recreate a scene but recorded a short "runaway" video outside. Limited merchandise but it is mostly stuff you can buy online. Well kept castle and good audio tour.

What a cool castle to visit! Some show called "Outlander" was filmed here? Not sure, my wife is more aware! 🙂

A great castle with epic views and a rich history.

We went in March and got right in with not much of a line and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves!

This castle is included on the Scotland Explorer Pass. Depending on your trip/route, take advantage as this may actually work out to be pretty inexpensive given the castles on the pass!

Doune Castle is a must-visit, especially for Monty Python and the Holy Grail fans! The moment you step inside, you can almost hear the taunting French soldier from the iconic sketch. The castle itself is impressively well-preserved, with a fascinating history and stunning views from the battlements. The audio guide, narrated by Terry Jones, adds a hilarious touch for Python lovers. Beyond the castle, a beautiful riverside walk offers a peaceful escape into nature. Whether you're here for the history, the scenery, or the comedy, Doune Castle delivers on all fronts.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Doune Castle is a fantastic stop, especially if you're a fan of history, Outlander, Game of Thrones, or Monty Python. The occasional rain didn’t bother us since much of the visit is indoors. The free audio guide is excellent—informative and entertaining—with bonus content for TV and film fans, and a special intro by Sam Heughan for the Outlander crowd. Well-preserved, atmospheric, and full of character. Highly recommended!

Nestled in the Scottish countryside, this well-preserved medieval fortress offers stunning views and a fascinating glimpse into Scotland’s past. The castle is famous for its connection to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Outlander, and Game of Thrones, making it a great stop for fans of film and TV.

The self-guided audio tour, narrated by Monty Python’s Terry Jones, adds an entertaining and informative touch, bringing the castle’s history to life with stories of medieval Scotland and its role in pop culture. The towering walls, great hall, and winding staircases give you a real sense of what life was like centuries ago.

Though parts of the castle may be under restoration at times, it’s still a fantastic place to explore. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the surrounding landscape is breathtaking. If you’re in the area, Doune Castle is definitely worth a visit!

Great place, so many nooks and crannies to explore. Suggest good footwear tho as extremely uneven. If you're a Monty Python or Outlander fan, definitely a must, they even have an audio tour with Terry and Sam!
