Kevin Guest, Dorset Bird Tours
We thoroughly enjoyed our birdwatching trip guided by Kevin Guest, Dorset Bird Tours, on 24 Sept 2024. The booking process was extremely easy. After with a couple of emails, we booked Kevin for the full day. Since independent guides are not allowed into the cruise port, he provided clear directions and a map on where to meet him at the Portland Castle – multiple times. His vehicle was clean and tidy. He was very considerate of us and took pains to ensure we were comfortable, well fed, and happy throughout the day.
He took us to Ferrybridge, Radipole Lake RSPB Reserve, Lodmoor RSPB Reserve, and the Isle of Portland-Southwell Quarry, adjacent to the Portland Bird Observatory. All were worthwhile stops. Kevin has extensive knowledge of birding and knows where the local birds hide and their habitats. He was helpful in identifying other birds that we spotted along the remainder of our cruise when I sent him descriptions and photos.
He was eager to help me find all sorts of new birds since this was our first UK bird watching trip. It was a joy finding the Bearded Reedlings with him. I think he was more excited than we were. At our final stop at the Portland Bird Observatory, he introduced us to the assistant warden who had just pulled a Spotted Flycatcher out of their nets. She showed me the bird and eagerly pointed out its characteristics. It is clear Kevin has a strong relationship with the birding experts hanging out at the observatory. Then we went in search of the Little Owl. We did not see it initially. Kevin went down a steep hill into the quarry to find the owl. Meanwhile, I looked around the quarry through Kevin’s excellent scope and found it! I ended up with 50 new birds on my life list. I highly recommend Kevin and his birdwatching tours. He is truly knowledgeable, kind and organized.

We had a fantastic day of birding with Kevin. His enthusiasm, knowledge and good humour made for a really great experience. He helped us see species we never would have spotted ourselves and taught us a lot about birds we’ve seen before. We highly recommend it!

we did a full day bird tour (getting off cruise ship for a day) and it was A+. he met us right where he said, drove us all day. was very efficient travel to many stops and many birds. kevin worked hard to show us birds all day including rushing back for little owl. and he got us on last bus back to ship with enough time to spare to reduce stress. we would recommend him highly to lead birders.
