This Wood is just on the outskirts of Dalbeattie and within walking distance from the town. It is well signposted and the walls are easy and the walkways wide enough to walk 4 or 5 abreast. The forest is well looked after but you will see a tree or two that blew over in the past storms. There is a lovely loch (loch Plantane) in the Center with a walk that goes right around the loch. The loch has a few benches to sit and view the beautiful scenery. The hungry ducks ๐Ÿฆ† will come right out of the water to meet you (unless you have a dog with you). Remember to take a few hands fulls of oats with you for ducks. There are also a number of awesome cycle routes around and through the forest.

It's a lovely place to go for a nice walk. We did the Plantain route, which was not too difficult but also felt like a good exercise. Lovely view over the Loch.

The paths here are very high quality and don't disturb the beautiful nature. This place is just beautiful. We walked around the loch, which was the perfect length for us. There are a couple of sculptures. It's quite a popular place for dog walking. There are longer paths if you prefer. The large car park is not technically free but is so cheap it may as well be. No overnight parking. Take note there are no bins here so take your rubbish (and poo bags!) home.

Lovely location on edge of town. Various lengths of walks through forest and around pond (watch out for the ducks). Car parking available for a charge

Absolutely amazing place. We visited on a rainy day and it was still a treat. There are marked and unmarked paths, some very accessible others a bit more challenging. Great place for families, dog walkers but also if you want to spend some quiet time in nature.

Great place to walk especially with dogs, our 2 had a blast rummaging and sniffing.
Make a point of finding the map before setting out as there is a large area of paths to walk.

Arrived today with my wife and two dogs. One dog is 13 and has arthritis so we have a dog buggy for her.
There are different routes you can take, some easy and some hard.
We decided to go from the car park to the lake where there is a picnic table . Very pretty. We were going to go all the way around the lake but it was too rough for the dog pram.
We then backtracked but then took a left and ended up doing a loop and ended up back in the car park.
Very nice walk and easy underfoot if you take the right route.
There is a car park which you need to download the Ringo app and pay the parking fee.
A local told us to donโ€™t bother paying as they never checked ( thatโ€™s what we did) or drive out the car park, turn right and right again and park on the road going into Dalbeattie which is totally free and whatโ€™s the locals do.

Fabulous woodland walk. We took our wee dog on Saturday 19 July 2025 as we were on a short break and staying in the art bank B&B. It really is a lovely place to chill and wind down.
