The EXACT right amount of informative and funny. Rides the line perfectly of looking like a high class contemporary museum whilst also be loads of fun. Staff were great, we spent about an hour there but it was quite full at the time so intend to return when it might be quieter.

a real treat! staff were very knowledgeable, engaging and approachable. the museum is full of witty humour, scientific fact and gets you thinking philosophically at times too. also, probably the only time i’ve wanted to buy multiple items from a museum gift shop. they had an exhibit for a local environmental activist who does their activism through drag, explaining their latest project based on issues in the local area. good to see a museum that truly prioritises community learning!

Thos place is small but packed with information. Although there aren't a huge number of exhibits, the displays are detailed with plenty of descriptions to read and learn from. It was quite crowded when we visited on the weekend, but overall it was an enjoyable and interesting experience.

Another fascinating attraction in Margate just happens to be Europe's most popular Crab Museum. It's free but the abundance of information concerning the crustaceans is plentiful and this coupled with the fact that the staff have an incredible wealth of knowledge which they're all too happy to divulge for those who wish to learn more about the world of crabs. There's plenty for the little ones here to keep them entertained so it's certainly worth a visit for the family and even the shop has some neat little treats to buy. If you happen to be visiting Margate then add the Crab Museum to your places to check out here - it is free after all.

A fantastic little museum. The information was easy to read, and fun to engage with. The ethos of the museum was super refreshing, espcially in comparison to other, less ethical museums. Climate focused, anti- capitalist and pro crab, with a great gift shop and free entry. Options to donate or pay to be a friend of the museum, which includes an exclusive pin badge and a certificate. Very worth it.

If there is only one reason you go to Margate, then this should be it. This is hands down the best crab museum in the UK, and I’m willing to fight people and say it’s the best museum full stop. The set up is perfectly simple. You will learn so much - some fun facts and also very relevant facts. The models are fun and interesting, it’s great for kids and adults alike. The staff are the icing on the cake - they had so much knowledge and were so engaging.
The museum is free but I highly recommend buying some merch/donating the £4 via the machines because it would be such a loss not to have this.

If you enjoy museums, if you love fun stupid memes, or if - most importantly - you just like to learn and are curious then Margate's Crab Museum is the place for you.

The staff are extremely nice and lovely to talk to. You can see the dedication to learning and sharing knowledge. Moreover this is a Museum that critically understands what a museum is supposed to be. Talking about how capitalism contributes to climate change, how museums are not objective, and the role of science to understand the world around us, this small museum punches way above it's weight class.

So yeah, this review serves to demonstrate Murray Bookchin's idea of how deviation from the norm is essential to visionary thinking. Using the Crab Museum as an example of how there is always space to rethink and re-engage with museums and learning.

Also the memes postcards are worth the trip alone!
