Had a great experience on the steam train from North Weald to Ongar. Lovely staff and lovely transport. The journey could have been a little longer and the tracks through Epping forest were defective so didn’t get the full experience, also staff responding online to questions were a little slow to respond. All the same a good day out and after all it’s run by volunteers !

Great fun on bus and train. Our guide had brilliant historic knowledge of the town and railways. I will say the only things I would change or note 1. The cheese monger would do well to have tasters (maybe we would have bought if we could taste the cheeses) 2. The church, whilst beautiful and historic with fab views, was a very long and muddy walk for those less able and they gave up. 3. More info regarding where to eat etc..would have been useful. Ongar is pretty but no shops as such. Hoped for some quaint shopping but eventually found a cafe, ate and had to leave for train back.
So it was good to get out but needs some tweeking. Also learnt you can do the bus and train for £18 rover ticket..so if you're not interested in a guide, this may be for you. Thanks though for a lovely day out!

Epping to Ongar Historical Bus and Steam Train Trip.
We had a perfect day for the trip sun shinning on a late spring day. Arrived Epping underground station , after meeting our guide and a short wait, we boarded the historic double decker bus to North Weald Railway Station. Our day had started which included bus rides, steam train rides, a pleasant walk across open fields to the historic church and well kept church yard and great views. If you like old fashioned railway stations you will not be disappointed. An interesting trip even if poor weather, but in good weather a really good day out. Thank you Chigwell Tours.

Chigwell Tours historic 'bus and steam train trip was very enjoyable. After travelling from Epping Underground Station by historic 'bus to North Weald, we rode on the steam train to Ongar. We enjoyed a walk to the oldest wooden-built Church in the World and had some free time in Ongar to eat lunch before riding back on the steam train to North Weald. Our day was completed by travelling on another vintage 'bus back to our car at Epping Underground Station. All in all, a wonderful day helped by Chigwell's very helpful Alan.

The 5 stars are for Amanda who was so helpful what a lovely pleasant lady she was the tour guide and the driver that took us to the lovely church St. Andrews which was the highlight of our visit, the oldest wooden church in the world so quaint found it amazing and still standing after many many years. We loved the vintage bus and the steam train plus the lovely weather.

But of confusion relating to charge for mini bus which we didn’t have

But all in all a lovely day plus a lovely lunch at the 2 brewers inn while we waited for our ride the the church .

My wife, mother in law and two elderly relatives were booked for the unaccompanied train and bus tour with afternoon tea. We were told to go to the wrong tea room when we arrived. So we had to buy our lunch at an alternative venue at a cost of £104.20. I approached the company for a refund to the value of these meals.
It was refused and we were offered the £50 which we paid for the afternoon teas.
I even pursued the matter with 3 Counties Radio customer complaints show to no avail. As a matter of principle I took the company to the small claims court and won the case. I would urge anyone else who has had the same experience (and there are many) to do the same.
The managing director was unhelpful, and completely unprofessional. I would not recommend this company as they are completely disorganised and have no idea regarding customer care. I would add that the volunteers at the train station were extremely knowledgeable and you can see that they love the work they do.
