We generally try to take in a local walking tour when we are visiting a new location, as we like to get a feel of the local history and this tour did not dissapoint! We contacted the tour guide in the morning just to check the meeting location, time to meet and availability and Lyndon responded immediately confirming all we asked. We arrived slightly early and were greated straight away. It was soon apparent that he was born and bred in the village, and as the tour started off we knew we were in very knowledgeable company! Lyndon gave us a full tour of the village, stopping at many points of local interest explaining everything as he went along. From how the tierd water system came down to the docks, the complex systems that were put in place to ensure the constant supply to the docks always maintained a clean supply of water, to the ingenious methods that were implemented to pull vessels out of the docks in stronger sea conditions! Lyndons local knowledge is excellent, as was the tour and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in finding out a little about this beautiful little Port! Lyndon is a local treasure with his knowledge of Charlestown. His family has deep roots in the village and he has a love for it's fascinating past. He brings it all alive to preserve a jewel in Cornwall.Well worth the hour plus...do yourself a favor and take a walk with him and the charming history of this village and port.
