We had very high expectations of Cathedral House in Dornoch. Having stayed a number of times at a related hotel/lodges, âMuckrachâ near to Grantown. And we still couldnât help but be blown away. From booking to check in/out. It was seamless. Information provided prior to arrival, allowed us to drive straight to the property. It was winter, and the lights and heating had been left on for our arrival. It was very welcoming. This house has undergone a massive renovation, and remodel. And it has been worth it. High end fixtures and fittings. Tasteful decor. Linens were luxurious. The kitchen was possibly the best kitchen in a rental weâve ever been in. The bathrooms, lovely and modern. We felt like we were the first to use them. Which is important to us. The levels of cleanliness were faultless. There was a small welcome pack. Including the basics which were incredibly handy given our arrival time. And our limited knowledge of what would be available in the town. We only used the kitchen/snug area. We looked into the âposh roomâ, and it was beautiful. But settled into just the one area for our time there. We were sure, that in the summer, the orangery would be stunning, with access on to the courtyard. The location, couldnât be more perfect. Right underneath the beautiful cathedral, and on a village green area. A 10 minute leisurely walk to a most glorious beach. Similar distance, if youâre a golfer, and want to have a round or two at the famous âRoyal Dornoch Golf Clubâ. There are restaurants, pubs, takeaways and a cafe almost on the doorstep. And a small Coop with a good selection . Again all within 2 minutes walk. (Note; dogs are not welcome in most of them. The Castle Hotel, right across the road, did however, welcome our pooch, and the food/service was very good. They also had an amazing selection of Whisky, should that be your thing). We visited lots of places, including John 0 Groats. And many, many distilleries. Even though we donât much care for the liquor. We enjoy the romance and history of the distilleries. The location on the NC500 couldnât be better. And the local scenery is a photographers paradise. Protected dark skies too, or so we were told by a local. We appreciated the stars. We struggle to find any fault with this house, or the service provided. But if we were to be hyper critical. (And even then, we struggle for something to change). It would be that there are perhaps a few too many ornamental things. It felt a little cluttered. We were bothered we might damage something. But then, it all adds to the stunning properties charm. And⊠we didnât have to dust them! We have no hesitation recommending this holiday home. Something we rarely do. As we consider reviews are subjective. Our only real issue with the house is, that it doesnât belong to us.
