An RSPB Reserve in the sense that it's RSPB protected and managed land, rather than a "classic" reserve with hides and paths through it. Viewing from the Embankment road bridge (over the river Yar) will let you see roosting cormorants in the closer trees and at the moment (and for the last few months) a pair of White-tailed Eagles perched up in the middle of the reserve! They are about 0.4 miles away, so bring binoculars, but are hence well protected and not disturbed by viewers.

We hadn't intended to visit here, but couldn't get the bus direct to the nearby Roman Villa, so walked from the bus stop to the Villa through this nature reserve. The butterflies and crickets were a joyous discovery, and the sheep bleating were heart-warming. Georgeous views and so quiet (apart from the crickets). Lovely!

We started at Braiden train station (pick up the map at the station and be aware not well signposted , walk up the residential street for trail). We then walked south along railway line to pick up the longer trail

Picturesque route and plenty of things to see

Will not spoil you with the index of birds we see but the buzzard and the fishing Egret were a couple of highlights

Please label the route from the train station clearer for help !!!

Beautiful location for walking and bird watching. There is an abandoned railway track that goes from Brading (Quay Lane) to Carpenters Road (just outside St Helens), which is ideal for walking and cycling.

Always a lovely place to visit and get some refreshing nature, but don't forget appropriate footwear like hiking boots or wellies if there's been rain.
