This is a hotel that i will never go back to. Where to start? Our room was clean but extremely small, the bed was comfortable.|We wanted some pre dinner drinks in the pleasant outside courtyard. My husband and i ordered our drinks but only his came. I mentioned this to one of the waiters and was told it would be coming. Our son and daughter in law joined and they ordered drinks and got theirs but mine still didn't come. Yet again i asked for mine. What has incensed me about this is that i was charged for reordering the drink that never came. The hotel will not honour this oversight because unfortunately the bill had been signed for without checking it. Buyer beware!|Our evening meal was really not good. I ordered a tomato mousse which was presented as a rather solid lump of butter, which i had presumed had been whipped, which was part of its description. The rest of my meal was only a little better.|Breakfast was much, much better and the room it was served in was lovely, couldn't be faulted.|If a hotel wants to maintain its reputation then it should consider the good will factor which this hotel has not.

we popped in for Sunday lunch and even though we were near the end of the lunch session and without a booking they managed to squeeze us in.

we ordered 2 Sunday roasts, 1 beef 1 pork. both dinners were well stocked with parsnips, roasters, meat, carrots, broccoli and a massive Yorkshire pudding. we were also provided with a large side of cauliflower cheese and an extra amount, jug, of the delicious gravy. The meat, both the pork and beef were delicious moist and soft. the pork crackling was crunchy and the toffee apple sauce ideal for the dish. in short it was simply one of the nicest Sunday lunches I've had in a long time.

only one comment is that for me the roasters were fluffy/powdery centered when I prefer them more waxy.

well done to the staff because they were helpful, polite and attentive.

I had to try one of the puddings suspecting that it would also be as good. the sticky toffee pudding and it was well tasty and surprisingly light. the pouring sauce included bits of dates. thought it was a little pricey at £10 and I didn't need it after the dinner I'm glad I did as this is the quality I can use for a benchmark for the future.

congratulations to the kitchen for producing such quality food and keeping it around £30 for 2 courses

Attended a funeral wake and was very pleased with the service and attention given by the bar and serving staff.
The food was excellent. Freshly made sandwiches with plenty of good quality fillings, tasty sausage rolls, and a selection of what appeared to be moist, delicious, home-made cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam.
I highly recommend this as a venue for similar functions. 10/10

We checked into the hotel into a room that was sold as an “upgrade” which cost us an additional £20. ||Upon check in we noticed a sewage/ blocked drains smell at the top of the stairs in the landing area outside our room - 210, which got stronger in the actual room, in the bathroom in particular and by the wall on the window side of the room. ||We dropped our bags as we were heading out. On return to the hotel at c. 2315, the smell was much stronger - very overpowering and unpleasant. ||I reported this to the night porter who said he’d come up and check. He didn’t come up, as was chatting with a couple in the bar, so I had to return to reception. After my second visit, he came up and recognised there was an odour. He advised he had a cold so could not smell it as much as my husband and I. ||By now we had opened all the windows to try and alleviate the issue. Not great as, despite the day being warm, the temperature had dropped and there was a lot of noise from an adjacent bar. ||The porter left the room to call the duty manager and said he’d come back in 5 to 10 minutes. He didn’t come back, so I returned to reception again. By now it’s almost midnight. ||At this point he’d yet to call the manager. He tried to call whilst I waited, but got no response. He then tried to find some air freshener and provided an almost empty can. At this point the “on call” manager called back and advised that there was nothing they could do as the hotel was fully booked. ||As we’d both had alcohol, we were unable to leave, so had to put up with the smell. To top it off, we had very noisy ventilation units right outside the windows (which were open to reduce the smell) and the fire alarm went off just after 7am. ||We took this as a sign to leave, so checked out early. ||Positive points: Nice car park. Great staff and cocktails in the cocktail bar. Good breakfast and the night porter did his best, given he was the sole member of staff, dealing with everyone, ||Sadly, we wouldn’t stay again. Shame as it’s a beautiful old building that could be wonderful.

The rooms are fantastic here, really nice old building and the rooms reflect it perfectly. Modern furniture in each room but it’s kept the old building feel. Very comfortable bed and the bathroom was really spacious too. Location is great too as Grantham does have a lot of bars and restaurants all within 5-10 minutes walk of the angel and royal. Can’t wait to come back! Thankyou

Outstanding Sunday Roast - Best We’ve Ever Had|My wife, her mother, and I had the most incredible Sunday lunch at The Angel and Royal today we booked the Kings room , and I can honestly say it was the best Sunday roast we’ve ever experienced - even surpassing our previous favorite at The Criterion in London now closed sadly:-(|Absolutely exceptional. |The roast beef was so tender it literally melted in your mouth, and the portions were wonderfully generous without being wasteful. The Yorkshire puddings were perfection - crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, exactly as they should be. Every element of the meal was cooked to perfection.|Outstanding throughout our visit. The staff were attentive, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable about their wine selection, which perfectly complemented our meal. They made sure my mother-in-law was comfortable and well looked after.|Warm, welcoming, and exactly what you want for a family Sunday lunch. The historic setting adds such character to the dining experience.|Very reasonable pricing for the quality and portion sizes we received. You definitely get excellent value for money here.|Compliments to the chef this was a truly memorable meal that we’ll be talking about for a long time. We’ll certainly be returning and highly recommend The Angel and Royal to anyone looking for an exceptional Sunday roast experience.|Thank you for making our family lunch so special!|Ps the wine was amazing 🤘🏻

Wow, perfect in every way. Lovely, historical building and the staff were all very helpful, always giving 110%, rooms was very clean , tidy and couldn't ask for a better stay 😊 The food was amazing and presented so beautifully and great choice on the menu the chef certainly knows a thing or two about food (5 star dining 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 ) will definitely stay again, |Note to owner, your staff are a true credit to your business and top marks for amazing food and great service 👌 perfect

Absolutely fantastic dining experience at the Angel and Royal Hotel in Grantham! We had dinner, breakfast, and Sunday roast—all were exceptional. The seared scallops with peanut mousse and the seared tuna were beautifully presented and full of flavour. The strawberry cheesecake was the perfect finish!

Breakfast the next morning was a real treat—cooked to perfection by the owner. And the Sunday roast? Just as impressive. Friendly staff, a warm atmosphere, and a stunning historic setting made it unforgettable.

Highly recommended—don’t miss it if you’re in Grantham!
