There’s so much to really enjoy about this place. From the meticulous care the host, Charlotte, put into restoring the farm house, to the spacious rooms (and showers), and especially her outstanding homemade breakfast and dinners. Her business model is truly unique where guests from all over the world relax and chat and drink wine and talk about travels or families or cultures. An immensely talented photographer, Charlotte’s realized vision was to create a truly unique experience in this tranquil setting nestled within the nearly 900 year-old Augustinian Lanercost Priory that’s within steps of the nearly 1,900 year-old famed Hadrian’s Wall. My wife and I enjoyed staying at the Abbey Farm House (and me, hoping against hope for a clear night sky for Milky Way images—no luck), we stayed an extra night. Charlotte provides such pleasant company and her outstanding B&B is an unqualified 5-Star rating. We look forward to returning.

Our family of 15 and a small well behaved dog stayed at Abbey Farm House over the Easter weekend as part of my Mother-in-laws 70th Birthday party. The house was cleaned and well stocked with bed linen, towels, toilet rolls and a lovely complementary basket of treats. There was plenty to keep our whole family occupied with access to Netflix, board games, tv, karaoke and the hot tub. We had a lovely walk into St Bees to the beach and ate in one of the local pubs which was incredibly welcoming. Would definitely consider returning - many thanks.

Amazing house to stay in, well presented and we'll maintained. Rooms are very comfortable and the hot tub is an amazing feature (especially after long walks during the day). The welcome pack on arrival is a very nice touch. Pool table is great for entertaining, as is the projector to watch movies or play ps4. Definitely one of my favourite places to stay in UK.

It's a great place for exploring & unwinding. After a long walk, we were grateful to return to this charming beautiful rustic farmhouse with comfy beds and a welcoming hot tub, gazing at the stars and shooting satellites in the night sky.

We went for a lovely 8 mile walk to Whitehaven, where we could see the windmills in the distance, Once we reached Whitehaven, we caught the end of the market, ate really well at Vagabonds and glimpsed the beautiful sunset.

We also loved our visit to nearby Ennerdale, where we walked all day, reaching the stones at the summit of Red Pike with its magnificent views.

When not out walking, we relaxed by playing on the excellent quality snooker table, watching films such as 13 Lives on the big screen but always returning, each night, to the hot tub and the stars above.

Really looking forward to returning next year.

Amazing 4 day stay at the property. Well maintained, clean and very comfortable. Managed to make use of all the facilities- pool table, table tennis and cinema room. Best of all of the facilities was the hot tub - the view of the stars at night while in the tub was amazing. The owners have put a lot of thought and effort into making our stay relaxing, enjoyable and comfortable. Would highly recommend and definitely will return again. Great value for money.

We are 3 American women, it was a wonderful place to start the Coast to Coast. Both Janet and Steve were warm and welcoming, the rooms very comfortable. We were served a lovely tea when we arrived, and a delicious breakfast in the morning. Best of all was the advice from Steve.

Our family of six, along with our small and well-mannered dog, had the pleasure of staying at the enchanting Abbey Farm House in Cumbria for a delightful three-night getaway in early January. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted by a thoughtful welcome pack brimming with treats to make our arrival more comfortable – the inclusion of milk, biscuits, and a bottle of wine was a touch of hospitality that was especially appreciated after our late Friday evening arrival.

The Abbey Farm House immediately impressed us with its abundant character and the well-preserved original features of a Grade 2 Listed building. The residence exudes a historical charm that made our stay uniquely memorable. With its eight cozy bedrooms and five well-equipped bathrooms, there was more than enough space for our family to spread out and relax in comfort. While the entire house was remarkable, it was the expansive farmhouse-style kitchen that truly captured our hearts. There, we enjoyed preparing and sharing fabulous meals, basking in the warmth of family togetherness.

Our children were utterly delighted with the amenities. The house is a treasure trove of entertainment with a pool/snooker table, a steaming hot tub that became our sanctuary both in the brisk mornings and starlit evenings, and a grand cinema room that hosted our nightly movie marathons. The added bonus of a Playstation, an assortment of board games, and table football meant that there was never a dull moment for the little ones.

Nestled in a location that strikes a perfect balance between seclusion and convenience, Abbey Farm House offered the tranquility we desired with the assurance that adventure was never far away. The picturesque countryside and seaside walks, a mere 10 to 15 minutes away, were a breath of fresh air. Our time spent at St Bee's beach, with its captivating coastal walks, was particularly memorable.

Our explorations also took us to the vibrant Whitehaven Marina. The lighthouse stood as a beacon of the area's maritime heritage and set the scene for a pleasant evening out, where the town's array of restaurants and bars provided a delightful conclusion to our days.

In every aspect, Abbey Farm House went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable, providing all the essential amenities, from coffee and tea to washing-up necessities, fully stocked for immediate use. It's rare to find such attention to detail, but it's these little things that truly make a world of difference.

In conclusion, our stay at Abbey Farm House was nothing short of magical. It's a place where the historical charm is palpably alive, comfort is assured, and family memories are waiting to be made. We left with our hearts full and our spirits rejuvenated, carrying with us the echo of laughter from a home that felt very much like our own.

Would we recommend Abbey Farm House? Without a hesitation, yes. It's not just a house; it's an experience, a slice of tranquility, and a gateway to creating cherished family moments.

Highly recommended for families seeking a blend of luxury, comfort, and adventure.

Fabulous place. Sixteen of us but plenty of room. Bad weather didn't spoil things. Good pubs and restaurants near by. And plenty of things to see in or near the village. Loved it.
