A fun night to be had learning about history, suicides, murder and ghosts… in a fun way too.. well recommended.. I loved the tiny tea room bit most… and the boys are still laughing about “your mother was a hamster”… brilliant.. it was very entertaining way to spend an evening.. thanks..

Ended up having a private tour for me and two friends and we had a great evening. John knows so much about the history of Canterbury and phraseology so we learnt tonnes. Lots of laughs along the way too. Would recommend for something different to do in Canterbury

John is a very interesting tour guide filled with knowledge of all things Canterbury. We really enjoyed our time and he gave us an appreciation of England and the quirks of the language. Thanks!

Enjoyed John's story telling, super knowledgeable, quite enjoyed the explanations to modern day sayings that's get lost in history.
I like the grusomness as its meant to be "scary", after reading other people's reviews not sure what people expect from a ghost tour? Perhaps put an age limit on the tour.
Would have been good to walked around a little more, but other than that, John made everyone feel included.. even if not everyone in group got the jokes and love the statue, plaque, brick markings pointed out on route otherwise would have walked straight passed them with no idea.
Good fun evening out. Thank you.

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure to have booked a secret Canterbury tour with John Hippisley, just a week ago or so. We really enjoy his style, he is a walking encyclopedia on Canterbury and many other things. A great tour with many interesting details about the city. We highly recommend!

John was a great story teller, very witty and informative. We spent most of the walk laughing despite the gruesome nature of many of the tales he told. We also learned a lot about the etymology of British words and phrases. It was a fascinating walk, highly recommended.

Really enjoyed this tour. John was the best ghost tour guide we’ve ever had. He had legitimate knowledge and passion about the ghosts of Canterbury and I bet he could have gone on past the 90 minutes (which went by quickly). Highly recommend this tour. Insightful, frightening (at times) and funny. Exactly what a ghost tour should be.

John is an extremely knowledgeable, charismatic and witty tour guide. I found the tour so interesting and it reminded us that history and local stories are everywhere but a lot of people (including myself!) are so caught up in the daily routine that we forget to pay attention to what's all around us!

Our tour was very atmospheric, being 2 degrees above freezing in Canterbury and with the city centre being mostly deserted and dimly lit.

Would highly recommend!
