Just a heads up to anyone hoping to go into the castle grounds...as recent posts have suggested and confirmed by myself today it is not possible enter the castle at the moment! As you can see from my photos you can still see the majority of the ruins from the exterior but due to falling masonry the interior is off limits. My last photo shows the notification of such at the café entrance...it seems the site will be closed for the foreseeable future.

Loved it! Go through Jesters cafe (nice food too) 50p entrance fee (yes really!) And walk through. Such a nice hidden chunk of history. Lots of information about the castle outside the cafe and around the outside of the castle. 1200s onwards if I'm correct but steeped in history before and after that. Worth a visit and gets the imagination working especially with the miniature detailed reconstruction model. Go visit!

Lovely village, went to the first black dog festival. Had chips on the lawn and enjoyed the burning of the black shuck. Great historic place with nice people

A smaller castle ruin but very Interesting with great history - nice visitor guide book available in visitors cafe where u can also get a bite and drink. Very cheap - £1 for booklet, £1 adult entry, 50p for kids. Kids enjoyed exploring the castle ruins. Definitely get the booklet / guide if going in.

Was a surprise didn't even realise there was a castle in Bungay...only visited it as that's where my late mother was from...It a lovely town well worth a visit

I like the place. In summer time, in non pandemic years, if you're fortunate to be here, you can watch a Shakespeare play performed in open air.

Closed 30 mins before the stated closing time! Still got to see it from the other side of the fence.
