Terrible experience – do not recommend Sixt

I had a truly awful experience with Sixt in Bristol, UK. I rented a car to visit Stonehenge, but after just one hour of driving, the tire burst—and there was no spare tire in the vehicle. Despite having purchased full insurance and roadside assistance, it took five hours for anyone to come help. We lost the entire day and missed our planned visit.

After reviewing the rental contract, we noticed it already listed severe and multiple damages precisely on the wheel where the tire eventually burst. This suggests the damage was pre-existing and known to the company.

Worse still, the vehicle was towed and we were left stranded in the middle of nowhere. The following day, the Bristol branch told us to write in to avoid being charged for the day. Yet we were charged two full days of rental, a late return fee, and even the tire repair—despite everything being out of our control.

This is unacceptable. I’ve rented from many companies before and have never experienced such poor service and disregard. Sixt has lost my trust, and I would strongly advise others to avoid them.

Amazing experience. Last minute car hire as previous car hire required a credit Card but these people also accept Debit Cards thank goodness. Service was wonderful especially the wonderful Phillipa who really looked after us. Once the booking was made and we had the car - coming from Italy I had to give her a hug as she really saved us. Will recommend this car hire from now on! 🙂 Thank you Sixt!

We rented a car from the Sixt Bristol City Centre branch last weekend and couldn't be happier with the service. The booking process via the website was very straightforward. The branch is conveniently located near the train station and was easy to find. We experienced zero wait time upon arrival. Philippa took care of us and she was absolutely brilliant – genuinely welcoming, super professional, and efficient. She sweetly suggested an upgrade, and we happily took it, deciding to treat ourselves! The car itself was excellent, with nothing to report. The return process was incredibly smooth and took literally less than five minutes. A truly 5-star experience thanks to the great car and especially Philippa's outstanding service.

It was my first time using Sixt - I'm always a bit apprehensive renting cars as reviews can vary but I had a really, really good experience. Philippa at check in was ridiculously friendly, she very coherent about all the policy and even gave me an upgrade. The car was ideal for the weekend and drop off was very quick and easy. Thank you!

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. Their customer service is abysmal, they have no care for customers and their systems and processes are disorganised and obstructive.

My car broke down during my rental (deemed to be due to natural causes) and I waited 6.5 hours for support. After logging an intial request for assistance and waiting 90 minutes I was informed when I called back that the request haven’t been put through. They were unable to set some how to call an international phone number when I made my second request for someone to come out and assist and hence waited another 90 minutes to find they had not professed the request. Bu the time this was sorted out they were not able to offer me a replacement vehicle that day. The location I was parked in became unsafe when it got dark and they were limited in their readiness to work with me to speed the process along to ensure my safety. I also need to wait until the end of the rental period to determine if they would still charge me for the rest of the rental period even though they were unable to replace or fix the car.

I’d urge anyone looking to hire a car in the UK to not use this company.

The employee that helped with pick up was helpful, funny, personable, and informative. Can’t remember his name rn but he’s moving to Ohio and looks like an American football player. We’re running late and he called and said if needed he could try and stay open for us (which wasn’t needed). Really nice car. Peugeot 308. Unfortunately as they were closing we didn’t get to do the vehicle inspection beforehand or get much help with features etc as it was my first time driving in a few years and first time ever on left side of the road. I’d say as we extended the rental, a downside was the car return ended up being after hours and the website didn’t say they were closing 2 hours earlier than expected (NYE). Ended up being told there was some damage and it stressed us. After calling the actual location they (Spoke to Mark)assured us that our coverage we bought would cover it and it was standard procedure to ensure a third party wasn’t involved.
After a run around with Enter***** car rental company being a foreign driver with a debit card that delayed our journey to see family by 6/7 hours they were a lifesaver. I initially looked at sixt as they were more affordable but had terrible experience with them in the States. Ended up using them here and again- very happy.
