Beautiful nature reserve, even in the rain! Bird hide closed when we went on a Tuesday. Lovely view from the top. Will visit again in hope of seeing adder and lizard 🤞
Ponds add to tranquility - there are a few seats to rest and enjoy the birdsong.

I feel this could be a much better walk if it was better maintained

Be aware that this isn't suitable for people with mobility issues and dont wear any nice shoes as there is lots of sheep poo everywhere which is hard to avoid sometimes

I wish they could make more plaques about the various buildings and ruins along the route as it used to be an explosion factory... the biggest in Europe and worked throughout the world wars

You can see some elements of its past like tracks they used to transport

Other than that, the views are amazing

I would recommend you enter through the cookies sign, so you end at the parking by the river as its a step start otherwise

Space for about 4 or 5 of cars, no charge. Short walk around former explosives manufacturing factory transformed into nature reserve. Information on the history of the place are found as you walk around. I tracked it as about 1.75 miles. It's not completely flat but not massively strenuous either. Good viewpoints to be had of surrounding area.

This is a nature reserve built on an old nitro glycerin site. It's a bit of a hidden gem, mainly used by local dog walkers but it is beautiful and often quiet (especially out of season). The walk to the old pendulum is a gentle climb on a tarmac road but there is much more to explore. Do take the time to go to the right of the main pendulum route towards the hide and check out the views over the estuary.

Check out the cooling pond and then go down to the left to see more pools and some old buildings that are now preserved for bats.

There has been a problem with grass fires in the past so please take care if you're visiting in summer.

It might be worth noting that there are no toilet facilities here.

Great place for a walk and a bit of local history. I took my dog a couple of times but it's a shame that dogs can't go off lead here. It is potentially a bit hazardous, so I can see why the rule is in place.
They have a lot of ongoing projects by the looks of it too and I'm sure the last thing they want is my dog coming bounding around a corner!
every time I've been it's been quiet, which is a shame because it seems like a great place to hang out and have a picnic!

Quiet nature reserve that was once the site of an explosives factory! Lovely views at the top. There’s a small car park for 3 cars at the start and a steep-ish climb on tarmac paths on what was presumably the former road to the factory.

Great walk in nature here. Full of history, the site was previously used for producing explosives. Views are far reaching. Plenty to explore.

Not sure I went to the right place to park. Parked near the North Wales wildlife part. Walked a bit but it was all up hill. A good walk for wildlife and views.
