Thank you Gwel and Mor for giving us an amazing holiday in Cornwall. Even before we arrived we had a phone call from the friendly team to go through arrival. Any other questions or needs we had while staying, the reception team were so helpful and kind. ||Arriving at our lodge, no 49, was a wow moment for us. It was amazing, and so clean with all the facilities we could need. We all slept so well on the very comfy beds and loved the views from the balcony. Then the hot tub was the icing on the cake.||It’s a great location, we loved walking down the beach and doing some of the countryside walks with our dog. And it was a perfect spot for exploring further too. We also loved seeing the animals at Feadon Wildlife Centre. ||Our kids loved the pool, and it felt very relaxed over there. They loved how they were able to play catch in the pool and take over their body boards to play in the pool. ||Highly recommend Gwel and Mor. |We will be back.

Repeat Visitor – Lovely Stay with Some Room for Improvement

I've now stayed at Gwel An Mor twice, each time in a different type of accommodation. First, in one of the Scandinavian lodges, and most recently in a pet-friendly Signature Lodge. Both visits have been enjoyable, and the location itself is beautiful. The staff are absolutely brilliant, friendly, helpful, and always willing to assist with anything needed.

The lodges do have a luxury feel, and the setting is peaceful and relaxing. However, cleanliness has been a noticeable issue on both occasions. There are signs of wear and tear that let the standard down a little, and some areas could really do with a bit of TLC to maintain the high-end experience that Gwel An Mor aims to offer. (Photos attached for reference.)

One big plus is the complimentary access to the sauna and swimming pool, it’s a lovely feature and definitely adds value to the stay. That said, the overall experience doesn’t quite feel five-star, especially when staying during peak season.

I’d still recommend Gwel An Mor for a short break, especially out of peak season when the prices are more reasonable. It’s a relaxing retreat with some great features, but there’s room for improvement in terms of upkeep and attention to detail.

On arrival everything was great, lodge looked lovely from the outside . (Lodge 91 ) ||When we got inside there was a musty smell, we masked this with fabreeze. |Emptying our clothes in the bedroom we noticed a crayon on the floor and cobwebs on the ceiling . Sitting on the sofa in the living room area we noticed hairs and crisps under the tv unit. It didn’t feel clean so we got some disinfectant wipes to wipe down work tops and table. ||We ordered takeaway food from the restaurant, this was great and fairly priced. The staff member who delivered it was lovely and great service. ||Only 2 out of 5 tvs were working. We reported this to reception as we like watching tv to go to sleep. Reception sent a staff member to have a look (again very polite and helpful). The tvs were not fixed and we were told they would have to order new ones we were only there 3 nights so knew this wasn’t going to be resolved during our stay. ||We wanted to go in the hot tub but there was no dressing gowns in the lodge (which was advertised that there would be). We called reception to ask. These took 5 hours to arrive . We had already been in the hot tub at this point. The hot tub had jets not working and the decking around the hot tub was caved in and a tripping hazard. ||We decided to have a bbq one night. The lighter for the log fire was melted so we didn’t have anything to light the bbq with so we went out and bought a lighter. ||The shower was leaking from the hose and the bedroom light was flickering where the bulb was going. This eventually blew. ||If we had paid for a 3 star lodge we could probably oversea the above but we paid a lot of money for a 5 star experience. ||The lodge was very quiet and the view was beautiful. The beds were comfortable and clean. The staff very nice and attentive . The lodge definitely needs some maintenance and the little attention to details to bring it back up to a 5 star experience.

This review is such a double edged sword. We went today and used two of the services available, first was the base camp soft play, the facilities there were great the soft play itself was brilliant, food fantastic and milkshakes even better. My main issue was just the general lack of care by the staff, when being viewed through the glass window to the kitchen was just on her phone and not serving myself or someone near the front desk. Now on to feadon farm, the staff were flawless, the gentleman that did the wildlife show today was brilliant and humorous when a certain owl wouldn't play along. 10/10 to the farm staff.

Pros |- Spacious accommodation |- Friendly staff |- Nice dog treats to buy in the Terrace bar|- Bar and restaurant close distance to lodge|- Mike the maintenance guy was incredibly helpful and the most positive thing about our stay- it’s unfortunate we had to call him out most days due to the poor state of the lodge||Cons |- Dirty. Cobwebs and dust inside and out. Wardrobe dusted our clothes on putting them in. |- Marked towels and pillow cases (brown)|- No robes for the hot tub |- Missing kitchen appliances |- Lights didn’t work in kitchen and one bedroom |- Lock was broken on bathroom door |- One car park space for 3 bed (6 people and pet) lodge |- No recycling bin by lodge. Only food or general waste|- Hot tub was filthy with water marks, lime scale and dirt (which wiped off with finger so just had not been cleaned in a while)|- Sun beds were rusty and unable to be adjusted|- Steps and walkway were not clear in the dark |- Main pool and gym was dirty and outdated with some aspects out of order|- Unable to book any activities- barely any availability for axe throwing or archery- website is not clear|- Mould and hair in shower |- Scratches all on floor, marked walls and chipped paint on doors |- Poppers and cigarette buts on decking from previous people as well as at least 6 months worth of dust and spiders webs |- The farm shop advertised as being open but every time we went, it was locked

A great resort, family and dog friendly. We stayed in a lodge with private hot tub. Each lodge seemed to have a good amount of privacy and a little indoor space enough for the dog. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The lounge was very comfy for hanging out. We didn't need to use the log burning stove but imagine it would be nice in colder weather. The restaurant with the roof top bar was nice right next to the kids playground. The kids did the laser tag and archery along with making use of the tennis court.
Portreath itself is lovely and a short 10 to 15 min walk down through the woods. The beach in town is beautiful. Dogs only in the morning and evening though. There are other all day dog beaches closer to newquay. Redruth is nearby for proper supermarket etc.
All in all a great holiday and will come again or try the same resort brand elsewhere in the southwest.

I’m writing this not to complain, but to help future guests make an informed decision. We first stayed at this lodge in May 2024 and loved it so much that we returned in September 2025. Unfortunately, this time our experience fell short of expectations.||We were assigned the same lodge we stayed in previously—Lodge #16—and it appeared to have received little or no maintenance since our last visit. | The lodge was noticeably filthy.| Many fixtures were loose or broken.| Lights in the living room not working.|One bathroom’s extractor fan didn’t work, and the other bathroom was extremely dirty and odorous. I tried to avoid it, keeping the door closed to prevent the smell from drifting into the bedroom.| Dirt was everywhere, and the carpet was stained with spots and layers of dog hair.| There were no bathrobes this time (a must‑have for a lodge with a hot tub), just 2 towels per guest for 5 days.| Only two half‑rolls of toilet paper were provided, seemingly leftovers from prior guests, which is insufficient for six people staying five days.| The list of shortcomings could continue.||I’ve attached a few photos of the bathroom to illustrate what guests can expect (mold, grime, etc.). By any stretch, this is not a five‑star accommodation.|Before our September stay, I was considering booking another week for July 2026 and wondered whether the £2,000 price tag was justified. After this visit, there are no doubts left—I would not pay £2,000 for this accommodation. A rate of roughly £1,100–£1,200 would be far more reasonable.||On a positive note, the reception staff were very nice, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay.

Firstly, as we have older sat nav in our car, it took us to the wrong destination as there were no signs to Gwel an Mor on the road. However, we discovered, as we left on the Friday morning, that some big new signs have now been put up, so hopefully, this'll help future guests.||We couldn't find reception, it is not signposted very well, we ended up driving around the wrong parts of the park.||Once we arrived at our lodge, 75, it became pretty clear that it was nowhere near the same that is advertised on the website!|The Lodge looks tired and run down, the paintwork needs touching up, the floors are scratched and dirty, etc. The decking and outside area are covered in cobwebs and algae.|There were also no instructions for anything, no welcome folder with information in, nothing. ||We found a rolled up cigarette on the sofa, cobwebs everywhere, and within an hour of arriving, our socks were black on the bottom.||We had 2 bath robes between 5 of us, and 1 room was missing bath towels completely.||The lid lifter to the hottub was dodgy, and although a new one was delivered, it was left in the box on the decking, which we had to move out of the way of our dog!||We could not regulate either shower very well, which meant we were basically scalding ourselves to have a wash. Good job our children are older as this could be quite dangerous for a young child.|The TV in the bathroom did not work either.||Upon stripping the beds on the morning that we left to help the cleaner, all the mattress protectors were dirty and stained.||We are in The Terrace restaurant on our first night, and it wasn't brilliant. The food was ok, and the cocktails were mainly ice.|We tried to order a takeaway and was told there were no slots at 7pm at night.||We tried to book axe throwing online but could never find any bookings available.||The walk down to the beach needs to be advertised as steep and not for unable bodied people. As a larger, unstable person, I struggled with this.||This resort is advertised as a 5 star resort, and unfortunately, it most definitely isn't.|For the price I paid for this holiday I am really disappointed for what we got.||I have raised these issues with the resort union arriving home and have been replied to accordingly.
