A lovely place to see some planes although the air traffic is limited.

Come on a nice sunny day and you will see more flying.

There's a restaurant and two museum, one bigger than the other. Restaurant is fab. Parking in the actual car park is a little limited.

Interesting land rover safety truck! Apparently also a very good airshow.

Didn’t feel £123.50 for two adults and two children was value for money. Lacked attractions on ground and air display featuring two electric aircraft and a few bi planes was enough for me to leave half day without fearing I’d be missing out on anything later. I made this call as my dad took more interest in a buzzard he spotted in his binoculars. Sorry to be a grump, but could’ve been better.

The award-winning annual airshow, Old Buckenham was opened in 1943 during the Second World War and was home to the USAAF 453rd Bombardment Group of the 8th Air Force. Famous American actors who served there were Walter Mattau and Jimmy Stewart who was the first Operations Officer at the base.

There is plenty to see and do, including military displays, 2 museums, a funfair, stalls and exhibits, live music and the Food Village.

As for the 2024 airshow itself, there was a massive variety from the last 8 decades, from F-35s and RAF Typhoons to numerous spitfires, the Flying Fortress, RAF Falcons (Parachuting Team) and the World’s only Electric Aircraft Display Team. Great viewing is possible due to 650 metres of crowd line, and there is plenty of space with stalls/exhibits around 10 metres away.

And if that isn’t enough, there is also the chance to take a flying lesson with one of the UK’s best flying instructors!

Oh, and dogs are welcome too.

This review is about the 2022 Old Buckenham Airshow rather than the airfield in general. Old Buckenham is a small, but well equipped, airfield in South Norfolk. It has hosted an annual airshow for many years, but the 2022 show was its biggest and best yet. The show was held on both a Saturday and Sunday with the same line up each day. I attended on the Saturday and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. Drove straight in, no queue at the ticket check (advance tickets only). Similarly, after the show it took only 5 minutes to get out of the car park. Plenty of space to set up the chairs and watch the flying. Fair range of trade stands to look at. Plenty of catering – good quality and sensible prices (about 50% what you get stung for at Duxford). Quite a big military vehicle display to look at too. The flying display line up was excellent – genuinely up to Duxford standards but at about 60% of the cost – excellent value! Highlights includes a total of 5 Spitfires, B-17, RAF Typhoon, Catalina, Lysander plus a wide and interesting range of supporting acts. Something for everyone but still with plenty of appeal for the serious aviation enthusiast. Overall, a well organised, entertaining, good value for money airshow – what more could you ask for?

Old Buckenham Airfield is rich with history. My Grandad used to come here as a kid and get sweets off the Yanks. The air shows they put on are honestly incredible it’s a sight to be seen ranging from modern aircraft like the red arrows all the way to the beloved older era planes like the hurricane, B-17, P-51 Mustang and so on! Defiantly worth a visit whether an Airshow is on or isn’t on. 🇬🇧

Flew in for the first time today (the hay bales on the centerline are a bit weird, but at least they make spotting the runway easy 🙂) - unfortunately we picked a day when there was a private event on at Jimmy's, so we didn't get to try the food (which I'm assured by others is very good). Matt was very welcoming and kindly arranged fuel for us. All in all a good trip - would definitely go again.
