We absolutely loved the entire town. Our visit was spontaneous—we took a train from Glasgow and reached the town in about an hour and 45 minutes. The town is easily accessible from the railway station. We spent around 45 minutes exploring the dam and about 3 hours wandering through the town. Luckily, it was a sunny day. You can easily plan a visit without much preparation.

Pitlochry Dam is an absolute must-visit! The recent upgrades have made viewing the incredible salmon run so much easier and more engaging. The new facilities offer fantastic, clear views of the salmon battling upstream, making for an unforgettable experience. It's a wonderful blend of natural wonder and engineering marvel, perfect for all ages. Highly recommended!

Not quite what we expected! We thought it would be more based on the Dam and indeed Dam’s in general in Scotland. It had a lower museum area with an informative film about building Dam’s but no where near as much as I personally thought it would. Large cafe and gift shop of course!! Seating outside to view the Dam and a 100 step pathway (literally down steps which were even) down to the level of the water. Plenty of parking spaces and disabled parking spaces available. Toilets inside and disabled toilets. Full disability access throughout with a lift to the lower floor. As I say pleasant but not as much history and information as we personally would have liked….and I must add staff rather standoffish which is rare for Scotland I feel. As a side point the walkway over the Dam was currently closed when we visited which was no fault of the visitor centre but was disappointing

Round trip from high street, past the park then over the suspension bridge downstream of the dam. Walking along side the fish ladder, spring and autumn are good times to see salmon swimming, then a short walk across the dam to the visitor centre. Excellent walk, construction details of the hydro project with coffee to finish.

Plenty of space to have a little sit down. Property maintained very well. The steps down to the dam view may be a little difficult for some people. Benches are around to have a view of the water. People can be seen fishing. Restaurant available on the other side of the bridge. Flowing water is accessible by foot.

Lovely walk and view. Was able to take some lovely photos of the place!
Would recommend the walk down to the Pitlochry bridge and back into the village.

We visited this lovely location and I was slightly disappointed because of the steps up and down again to see the dam ….so unfortunately I did not get the best experience I could if I was not disabled.
They have disability parking at the main visitor centre so no problem there.
Would still recommend this facility to you all .

Pitlochry Dam is a fascinating blend of engineering marvel and natural beauty. The visitor centre offers engaging insights into hydroelectricity and the famous salmon ladder (though seeing salmon can be hit or miss!). The views over Loch Faskally and the River Tummel are stunning, making it a great free stop for a scenic walk and a deeper understanding of Scotland's power history.
