Brilliant experience. I bought this trip for my dad for Father’s Day, it made the perfect present. Captain Ed and tour guide Steve made us feel so welcome. It was a very comfortable boat ride in a warm and comfortable cabin. We saw so many brilliant sights and wildlife on our trip from Carrick to Muck island. I would highly recommend travelling with charter boats to anyone.

Took a trip with Charter Boats NI from Carrick Harbour all the way up the coast to Muck Island.

Fionn Mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) is a great ship. Everyone gets a life jacket, it has a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and even its own life raft. There’s a button to summon the coastguard, and even a lifejacket for a baby. Captain Ed gave a thorough but engaging safety briefing before we set off. Wet weather? No problem. This boat has windows and a roof.

The start of the journey is spectacular. You get to see the Anglo-Norman Carrickfergus Castle from out on the lough. All along the coast are impressive sights, ancient and modern. The great chimney at Kilroot Power Station, the Cloghan Point Oil Jetty, the colourful promenade of Whitehead, Blackhead Lighthouse, the Gobbins Cliffs and caves, and Muck Island. From a boat you get a fantastic new perspective. In May 2024 the sea cliffs beyond the Gobbins Cliff Path were crowded with seabirds, and guillemots and razorbills were in the water around the boat.

They do various routes to different destinations, each with their own highlights. Me? I'd always wanted to see Blackhead Lighthouse from the ocean, so this was the trip of a lifetime.
