I parked at this car park recently on my way to the crags trail. This car park is one of two along the trail. It's clean, well maintained, and the views overlooking the crags are just breathtaking. You can also park in Midgehole. It is a lovely climb down to Gibson Mill from here. That means it's a steep uphill climb back, which is going to feel like torture after a long walk on the trails.

Widdop road leading to this carpark is very narrow, so be very careful when heading to this carpark. Also, avoid driving through Heptonstall on your way. It's best to drive on Draper Lane.

Be aware that the sign posts are unclear, which means you're very likely to take a wrong turn. So be sure to map your route carefully before you set off. It's much easier to join the trail from Midgehole.

Nice view over the carpark, much less busy than nearby Midgehole Carpark by Nation Trust.

Access road is narrow, and no cell phone singal for me so unable to use PaybyPhone. £5/4 hours £8/ all day, prepare coins if you are not National Trust member.

It's a car park!
To be fair it's well looked after and spaces aren't as narrow as expected which is a bonus these days. £5 all day but if National Trust member can scan card for free parking. Beware the road to get to it is very narrow in places and some of the oncoming traffic seems slow to react. The hill is steeper coming back on foot from the Mill😁

Hard castle crag was an ace day out. A nice steady walk down the trail down to the beautiful old mill and cafe, walking thru beautiful feilds of blue bells and plenty of tree species for the botanists in all of us. Nice picnic area a short walk from the cafe and ice cream parlour. River crossing stones for brave of heart and lots of cool shallows for the dogs to paddle in. There are 4 trails to enjoy all colour coded and sign posted if like me your cartography skills a slightly lacking. The crag is a fun climb to so you can enjoy the picturesque valley views. The dog thoroughly enjoyed his adventure too. Not to far away you have the moors to explore and reservoirs to enjoy. Another great national trust day out

Car park is so easy to find, although it does come off a small country road. Parking was around £5 for the day, payable by cash at the car park itself OR by card at the cafe in Gibson Mill. Beautiful views from the car park as well, and a short walk to Gibson Mill and the other walking routes. The gentleman manning the car park was lovely, and so informative

Alternative car park when visiting hardcastle crags. Usually quieter than Midgehole , although it does mean that you have to walk down a steep hill to Gibson Mill. National trust members park for free of course, but last time I was there the payment machine was broken with an instruction to pay at the cafe at the mill... ok if you are going that way and the cafe is open.

Much quieter carpark than the main Midgehole one and stunning views and walk down by the big waterfall

Lots of parking spaces available, it is the furthest away and steepest of the two car parks available for the crags and mill, but I think that will make it more likely to get a spot on busy days. A wee bit awkward to get to with roadworks going on down the road, but a spotless car park. Easy to use parking meter when the staff aren't on hand in the hut. Free to National Trust members and £5 for the whole day for everyone else I believe.
