Booking in advance online saves a few pounds, but if you don't it's still a bargain for the close-up experience of seeing the actual houses and some of the stone bed platforms, shelves, and so on that hese people used. Wonderfully preserved, this is a powerful experience. The vistor centre is modern, informative and thoroughly professional without being stuffy. The reconstruction of a house as it was when in use is beneficial in helping you interpret the actual remains. Good cafe too. Highly recommended.

I wasn't sure what to expect but this village was amazing, it's unbelievable what has been preserved.
Definitely recommend visiting but check if there is a cruise liner visiting Kirkwall as there will be coach loads more people if there is.

Absolutely amazing!!!! We have visited a lot of the historical sites around Orkney & this is my favourite by far. To walk around here knowing that people lived here 3100bc is quite difficult to comprehend!!! A must visit location while on Orkney.

On Orkney for the week and 1st port of call was Scara Brae, it's small but tells an impressive story. Life how it was, be sure to go to Skaill House, it shows the family history of the Laird that found Scara Brae after a storm.

Really fun to learn about actually, but the exhibition is quite small, and the village itself is not massive. At £16 per person I feel a tad steep.
