Definitely a quirky stay. Lots of internal space both in bedroom and kitchen/dining areas. Superb range of coffee, cereal tea, bread - help yourself and included in the night price. Laundry facilities available too which if you're staying in rainy Orkney for a long period might be appreciated! 5min slight hill walk to town & ferry port. This place was so much cheaper than anywhere else in Kirkwall when we booked. Room and bathroom very clean. Great value for money.

Stayed here for three nights in May 2024.|As a group of twelve scooteristโ€™s visiting Orkney everyone stayed in a hostal whilst I opted for Eastbank House and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. |Situated just 0.3miles from the main shopping street the road rises just 95ft so although it is uphill it is not too bad. As others have mentioned the building is old (mid 19th century) and quirky but offers a lot more than a hostal and has plenty of parking on site. I was welcomed by Malcolm a real character who can tell many a story and can provide you with plenty of island information. Firstly I was shown the ground floor which has a fully fitted large kitchen, dining area, relaxing area and laundry facilities. There was a very good selection of coffees, teas, snacks, bread, fruit etc which was available 24/7. |My room a single ensuite was clean and tidy with everything I needed, comfortable bed, wardrobe, bedside cabinet with drawer, reclining chair, tv but more importantly an ensuite shower room with plenty of hot water, so no sharing the facilities with strangers.|I would happily stay here again and can highly recommend.

A very quirky hostel, with a very genial host. Free tea, coffee, pastries, fruit available. Washers and dryers on site, lots of parking space. Very central to Kirkwall (3 mins walk downhill, slightly more uphill coming back!). Very comfortable bed, large room and ensuite bathroom. Perfectly adequate for anyone who stays there

A wonderful place to stay for amazing value on the expensive island for accommodation. The rooms are a decent size with an electric shower and heating. There is a huge kitchen and dining room which is available 24/7 where a good continental breakfast is provided with plenty of fresh fruit, porridge, muesli and four coffee beans with a grinder for fresh coffee. Malcom is the most genial host who will make your visit an amazing experience nothing is to small or large for him to help you with. Donโ€™t expect a palace but a wonderful place to experience and stay.

I stayed here 10 nights and was blown away by the exceptional customer service, quirky charm, and feeling of community at Eastbank House. Malcolm, the owner, makes you feel like a family member rather than a customer. He was always available to give us a ride to the sights, the store, the airport--anywhere we needed to go. He is full of passion and knowledge about Mainland Orkney and will gladly show you around. The kitchen space was large and had everything you need. Free coffee, pastries, fruit, and condiments were available. The library was full of fascinating books about the area. My room was simple, clean, comfortable, and decorated with Malcolm's photographic artwork of hard to reach Orkney places. It's just a short walk into town from the hostel, a convenient location. It is an older building with its own kind of character and interesting local artistic touches. The value for the price was amazing! I'll definitely come back and there's nowhere else I'd rather stay.

As I'm sure others have already stated that this is not a luxury stay, however it was definitely comfortable. I had an ensuite room with a hot shower, the bed was fine, I slept well and the kitchen was very well stocked. I'd stay here again for sure. What I liked about it the most was the actual space, it didn't feel cramped or dingy. The house is big and open, the kitchen and communal areas were the highlight. I enjoyed meeting the other guests and Malcolm was great. The location is very central and an easy walk into town.
