Booked at short notice when I had to visit Thorne on a family matter and usual place I stay was fully booked. Arrived early evening, shown to room and given information on access, breakfast, etc. Room was larger than expected, well equiped and very clean. A few "quirks" which other reviews have mentioned but the is a B&B guest house and not a 5* designer hotel. Stayed a very comfortable 4 nights, staff freindly and excellent breakfasts. Would I stay again? - Yes

Great guest house with everything you need . Super clean room with a compact ensuite. Lovely cooked breakfast in the morning. For the price, you can’t go wrong. Thorne is a very quiet place , with not much happening, but as we were just passing through, it was fine. The Windmill pub next door is great for a pint.||TIP; If you sleep on the side of the car park, take an eye mask as the security light goes off in the night and the bedrooms don’t have black out curtains.

Visited Thorne on 28/29 January and found the Thorne Central Guest House to be very welcoming. |The rooms were spacious and clean and well presented. Lovely and warm. All had ensuite shower room and toilet. Fresh clean towels. The breakfast was wonderful, full English and provisions to make your own toast or to have cereals or fruit and yogurt etc, plenty of butter or jams/marmalade, also you can poor of make your own tea to just how you prefer it. |Very welcoming and friendly owner/staff. |Also a very friendly pub just along the road. |All in all enjoyed the short stay here and wouldn’t hesitate to book here again. |This is a great little gem. You won’t be disappointed.

We stopped here one night. Nice B&B, clean, large room but tiny bathroom which was a shame. Great location in the village. Just a few small things would make it a lot better, like a few choices of tea with breakfast (lovely poached eggs though), a full length mirror, hairdryer (you could ask for one but when you forget & you are already showered, it's not so easy to pop out to reception) and spare toilet roll in the bathroom. Shame the shower room was so small but it wasn't the end of the world.

Had trouble finding the place and I wish I hadnt! A funny l-shape building with tight parking and doors coming off the car park. Arrived after a smashing but tiring day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park (can thoroughly reconned that place) with a girl friend. Knocked on what seems to be the owners door - chap came, handed us a key and grunted directions, very vague really on where to find our room. It was through another front door up some dark narrow stairs to room 6. Twin room, size of room fine but, oh my gosh, the toilet and shower was in a cupboard the size of a double wardrobe. The handbasin isnt in the "bathroom" so totally unhygienic having to touch doors etc from toilet to wash yr hands. The small tv is on the wall and the socket - which was off - was high up above the wardrobe - we had to clamber up the wardrobe to switch the socket on. The main light is too dim - I appreciate energy saving but this was actually ridiculous. Only one bedside lamp between twin beds which didnt reach both of us so we couldnt read. My bed sqeaked so much it disturbed our sleep. No shampoo or soap in the shower dispensers which I only discovered once I had got soaking wet trying to get a shower in the morning. When I mentioned this to owner in the morning she said I should have gone to her - soaking wet and walking downstairs, outside, across the car park - to tell her!!! Dont think so!! The room was clean apart from black around the shower tray. Breakfast was awful. Rubbery dry scrambled eggs for my friend and a cooked one for me. They had bo mushrooms so I had a plate swimming in tinned tomato juice, one egg, one dried up sausage which was obviously leftovers, rancid bacon which was grey and hard. I ended up with an egg sandwhich. The staff attitude was that we were an inconvenience, it was just awful and we couldnt wait to leave. I know we only paid £5 for this so was budget but we had broken sleep and a disgusting inedible breakfast. Budget doesnt mean you cant do a decent standard and a decent attitude.

I stayed here on a stop-over on my way to Co Durham.||||It is a professional and clean B&B with a top-notch breakfast. It's much more professional than your typical B&B setting with a designated breakfast room in a canteen style rather than invading someone's domestic lounge. As someone who has ran the housekeeping department of an international conference centre I can tell you that it's obvious that revenue is re-invested in keeping the property fresh and clean. There wasn't a hint of dust on tope of the wardrobe.||||There is also 10% off at a local pub for an evening meal if you take the coaster out of the bedroom with you - which I did.||||Tiny niggles for improvement:||1: new heating elements in toaster. You could die of old age waiting for your toast!!||2: TV on mounted bracket rather than on top of wardrobe - needs a more natural viewing angle||3: Deep clean (i.e. with toothbrush) of the trim around ensuite floor (where flooring meets the wall)

Have stayed here more than once and returned purely because the location was good in regard to the local shops and Railway Station. Owned by a Middle Aged couple (presumably) Married. Although the Woman has never been that welcoming to us on previous visits prior to what we decided would be our last one the Man has always been quite amiable and helpful if I asked for anything and that's why we went back. However, the same cannot be said for the Wife during any of our stays and her attitude during our last stay made our minds up never to return. But her lack of Customer Service Skills cannot go unchallenged. I feel for the Husband in having to do this as he has obviously worked work to make this Business a success, but his good work is wrecked by the antics of the Wife. The Breakfast here is not to bad though, but could do with being a bit less greasy.||On more that one occasion we asked for more Toilet Roll and she's never been willing to let us have some. The last time we stayed we only had one Roll of Toiler Paper left so we knocked on her door after coming back from a night out, yet she bluntly refused and said "wait till morning". To comply with our request would not have taken much effort as the storage cupboard was only in the next room to where she answered the door at. We ended up buying our own Toilet Roll the next Morning to prevent a repeat of that nasty experience. She's a very stern faced Woman that in my opinion lacks Social Skills and perhaps would be better off employed as a Prison Officer in a Women's Jail. Discretion doesn't seem to be her strongest point either as I over heard her chatting with two Female Cleaners and during the conversation I clearly heard Anti-Male remarks. If it was just the Husband running this place on a day to day basis I would have no problem recommending it for location and cost of room reasons, but the Wife and her attitude is a liability. This Establishment is obviously worried about negative reviews as it has a notice on the wall asking those not happy to come to them first and not put anything bad on a site such as this one. Well I've tried approaching her for help more than once and I'm sorry to say it didn't do me any good. If she tried to smile a bit more it might endear her and the place to Customers who could even be tempted to return. But instead during my stays I have to say most of the time the expression on her face resembled that of an angry Staffordshire Terrier watching a Cat eat its meal whilst locked in a cage.
