If you look at my timeline, you'll see that we have stayed and dined in some of the best hotels in the country. Le Manoir, The Ritz, Cliveden etc, and I must say straight from the outset that Thornbury Caste is a good as any we've ever experienced. It also imparts that special feeling of staying in a real castle.||A mention here of Josie, who checked us in and showed us to our room. Professional, happy in her work, she enthusiastically told us all about the hotel and rooms.||In fact it's hard to know where to start in terms of compliments! - My wife will tell you how hard to please I am but this place really ticked all the boxes. The money that has been invested in Thornbury Castle to bring it to this standard must be unimaginable!||From the monogramed crockery at dinner right through to the towels, slippers, carpet, decor etc.. everything was perfect. We had the Jane Seymour suite and it was all excellent. We simply could not find any aspect we weren't happy with! - Gardens are immaculate and a pleasure to walk around.||Now the evening meal. We both opted for the 6 course tasting menu. The whole experience was sublime and without question is on a par with Le Manoir aux Quat 'Saisons. We both wanted to thank Chef and have him autograph the menu!||Thornbury Castle is without doubt one of the best hotels we've stayed in and we intend to go back. ||Thanks to all!

We spent just under 24 hours at Thornbury castle and enjoyed every second. We arrived early on day of check in and had afternoon tea at 1.30. |We upgraded to a suite and we were so glad we did. It was fantastic and had everything we could possible need. |We had dinner at 8pm and opted for 3 course menu. Small menu but exceptional quality and tasted delicious. |The whole experience was just amazing from start to finish. Every single staff member was polite, friendly and professional- they are a credit to the company. |If you’re looking for a special place for a special occasion- Thornbury Castle will not let you down xx

We love to try staying at historic hotels, and Thornbury was fantastic. The venue is superb and well maintained. What really made our visit though were the staff. All of whom we met were extremely friendly and professional. The meal in the restaurant was fabulous and worthy of their 3 rosette classification. It was interesting dining in such a historic setting. Our suite was split on 2 levels and was quirky and interesting but luxurious. I can’t really fault our visit!

Well what can you say - you are staying in a castle. That alone is already an amazing experience. The property is gorgeous. All the common areas (library, restaurant, gardens) invite you to slow down and look around. Staff from hotel and restaurant is really excellent, always polite and ready to help. I mentioned on reception that I believed my heater wasn't working and they promptly resolved the issue and added an extra duvet. The room was very comfortable, perfect bed, robe, great amenities and small touches that made us feel pampered. Breakfast was perfect every day and their restaurant is a MUST. ||One feedback would be having one person to carry luggage. The woman that received us asked if we needed help, but she was the one helping. We had big heavy luggage so my husband carried himself. I think since they know they have lots of stairs this would be a nice extra.||The only thing I would mention as a negative is that it was a busy weekend (Easter) and the hotel had a lot of kids. Noisy running in corridors and screaming kids. And since our bedroom door was right in front of the access stairs, the noise was something that really bothered us on the first couple of days. The hotel like I said above, invites you to slow down and relax so in my opinion, it felt weird to me that they accept small children. ||But it's not something that would prevent me from coming back. The place it's worth it. And at the end of the weekend when it was less busy we did enjoy the peace we were expecting.

I stumbled across Thornbury Castle Hotel by chance when browsing through a weekly newsletter from an agency. The hotel caught my imagination, so I researched it further. I prefer booking hotels directly rather than through an agency, so I called Thornbury Castle and they honoured the agency price on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. The person on the telephone was incredibly helpful and polite and went out of his way to offer what I required.||Thornbury Castle Hotel is only a few miles off the M5 motorway, and whilst Thornbury itself is a very non-descript town, the hotel is on the outskirts and is a tranquil haven set in acres of well maintained gardens that might well be a world away from the town. The buildings were erected in the 16th century and the original castle was visited by Henry VIII and one of his wives. The entire complex is extremely atmospheric, and you can feel the history almost dripping out of the architecture and gardens. The gardens are entensive and are superby manicured and maintained. There was absolutely no sound encroaching from the outside world.||There is ample parking and I received the warmest of welcomes as I walked into reception. All my details were to hand and everything was confirmed back to me and was accurate. The receptionist was incredibly thorough and interpersonal, and explained absolutely everything that I needed to know. He then escorted me to my suite, which was the Queen Elizabeth I Suite. This is at the top of an independent tower, reached by stone spiral staircase. On entering impressed immediately. The suite was spacious and had many original fittings, including a beamed ceiling. It was filled with quality bespoke furniture and was the perfect melding of antique and modern. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable with high quality linens. There was a desk and a separate sitting area that had antique chairs and a chaise Longe. The bathroom was tiled and had a separate shower cubicle and a freestanding rolltop bath, which was glorious. From the bath itself, you could overlook the open countryside this was extremely relaxing. My expectations were exceeded. There was a small decanter of sloe gin for my use. This was replenished when the bed was turned down. There was a safe in the wardrobe and high-quality towels and bathrobes were provided. Toiletries were Molton Brown branded.||The suite had a climate control system which was very quiet and quite effective. The one criticism was that this did not come with any instructions, making it extremely difficult to operate And causing the room to be comfortably hot on occasions.||Dinner was served in the historical dining room and was a three course affair, with a complimentary pre-starter and a basket of bread. All food items were fresh and appetising and portions were of a size where you could eat more, but were healthily filled. The dining hall was intimate however, there was a respectable distance between each table and its closest neighbour. On arrival at the restaurant, I liked the fact that The name of the guest was always requested, and there was never any mention of a room number. This is a best practice that I encourage whenever I review a hotel.|| Breakfast was also taken in this same room and all items were prepared individually for each guest. The orange juice was freshly squeezed. I was permitted a late checkout of noon and this fitted perfectly into my travel plans. The only area that should be reviewed is the managing of the arrivals desk when approaching the restaurant for breakfast. This occasion I had to return to reception to request that someone be sent to receive me.||Check out was very smooth, and my bill was accurate, with each entry being explained to me, including the optional gratuity from dinner.||My stay at Thornbury Castle was a delightful experience and deserving of this five star review in spite of a couple of bumps along the way.

We had a wonderful one night stay in the King James V room. We wandered around exploring the Beautiful grounds and common rooms. Great six course dinner, and we had the best night’s sleep! It was just what we needed to decompress and refresh from a long week of travel. Wish we could’ve stayed longer!

Just got back from a stay at Thornbury Castle and it was honestly one of my best mini-holidays ever! Me and my partner needed a little break and wow, what a find this place was!

We stayed in Prince Arthur's room and it couldn't have been more beautiful or comfortable. The quiet is just amazing - such a peaceful escape. And the bathroom was absolutely massive!

We loved every minute of our stay and have already recommended it to all our friends. Truly special place for a getaway 🧡

Lovely historic building and beautifully kept. The gardens are a delight. I was meeting family for a casual lunch the location was ideal. We were given a table in the Library as I had my 2 little dogs with me. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The burgers my son and his fiancee had were enormous and delicious. However, I had the soup, 8 spoonfuls with 3 pieces of bread! The soup was delicious but I felt the serving was disappointing, even for a starter!

Enjoyed our visit very much, would consider staying in the future.
