Stowe Gardens is one of the most breathtaking landscapes in England — a true masterpiece of 18th-century garden design. Managed by the National Trust, it offers an unforgettable day out, blending nature, art, and history in the most spectacular setting.

The sheer scale of Stowe is incredible. Sweeping lawns, serene lakes, hidden valleys, and winding paths lead you to over 30 magnificent monuments and temples, each with its own story. Every turn feels like walking into a different painting. It’s easy to spend hours just wandering, soaking in the beauty and tranquillity.

The gardens are immaculately maintained, and there’s a real sense of stepping back in time. Whether you’re a keen walker, a history enthusiast, or simply someone who loves peaceful, inspiring places, Stowe has something to offer. It’s especially magical in spring and autumn when the colours of the landscape are at their most vibrant.

The visitor centre is excellent too, with a good café, a shop full of lovely gifts and plants, and very helpful staff. There’s plenty of parking, and the welcome walk from the centre to the gardens gives you a perfect build-up before you reach the main view.

Stowe Gardens is not just a visit — it’s an experience, a place that leaves you feeling refreshed, inspired, and slightly awestruck by its beauty.

Just had a lovely afternoon at Stowe Garden! The grounds are absolutely stunning, perfect for a wander. We especially enjoyed the lake and all the quirky temples. It's a huge place, so wear comfy shoes! Great for families, couples, or anyone who just wants to get some fresh air and beautiful views. Definitely worth a visit.

This was our first visit since we first went 30 years ago. What a transformation: a proper car park, shop, cafe etc. The walk to the gardens is 800m from the car park and I would say it is not a good venue for wheelchairs, BUT you can get mobility buggies which you have to book before your visit. The paths in the garden are fine for walking and there are stunning views. Follies abound as do statues. We spent 3 hours there and didn’t see everything. The gardens don’t have pretty flowers (they do if you look hard enough!) - what you are experiencing is the landscape - the hills, lakes, copses, trees and the views. A brilliant place to visit. For those who need ready access to toilets there are none in the gardens, but there are a couple of portaloos at the entrance to the gardens. This was one of our favourite visits that we have done.

Stowe is one of my favourite NT visits! The grounds are maintained so well. It is a great place to visit all year around. It is particularly nice in spring. I would definitely recommend Stowe for dog walking. There's so much to explore, especially for dogs.

The cafe is really good too, lots of space, indoors and outside, so plenty of areas to chill out and eat whilst with your dog.

Very nice, clean and tidy. Large area for walking, picnic, beautiful views. There are two minuses 1. There are garbage cans only at the entrance to the territory 2. The estate itself at the entrance smells very much of urine from the toilets

We came for the walks, so did not visit the house (an additional £7.50 if a National Trust member). There are many different grass and gravel paths which pass a variety of structures and statues. These paths are dog friendly.

The facilities are also excellent with a large cafe, National Trust shop, and largest number of used books we've seen (in two parts: one in the pantry rooms and a second just before the cafe). The car park is large and includes many accessible and electric spaces. Toilets near the front are clean.

Stowe Gardens offers a magnificent view of its serene lake, surrounded by renowned, carefully designed landscapes that showcase the beauty of 18th-century English garden design. My family stroll through lush lawns, admire classical temples, and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. We love it!

Lovely National Trust site with all the facilities you could want. Note that the House is not included!

It has the normal NT cafe with a variety of hot food options.

Ample car parking available also as well as EV chargers. EV charging max speed was 21kwh and is chargeable via charge cards as well.

The ground themselves are a short work form the entrance and cafe. Note that you may need to tell the people y the grounds entrance you've already scanned in. There are toilets at the entrance but not many/if any on the main gardens.

The house itself is separate to NT and requires a separate membership or ticket to enter.
