Found “Footsteps” vía a “things to do near Belford” search on Trip Adviser during a winter walking weekend in the area.

We’d normally do walking independently, sorting out our own routes and navigation but thought we’d give this a go.

Unfortunately the weather prevented the advertised walk to the College Valley but Patrick (who runs Footsteps) suggested setting off from our hotel in Belford to join the St Cuthbert’s Way and visit St. Cuthbert’s Cave as this would also give great views of both the Cheviot Hills and the Northumbrian coastline.

Patrick is a great guy with a friendly manner and gave us a great wealth of information about the local history and geology of the area. There’d been a heavy snow fall which made for a spectacular day.

Patrick told us he also leads walks across the sands to Holy Island, something we’d intend to do in the future.

Had an amazing day with Patrick walking the Pilgrims Way along the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Heard and saw seals and birds and incredible vistas. Patrick was great company - interesting and personable. Learned about the history, birds and the nature of the area. Definitely recommend. And excellent value.

Yesterday we walked the pilgrims way across to Holy Island/Linfesfarne. Something I've been wanting to do for some time and to be on the safe side we booked Patrick Norris of Footsteps in Northumberland. Worth every penny!! What a lovely guy ....friendly and so knowledgeable. Great info too!!!
We had a super sunny day with a breeze and my main fear was unfounded.....getting freezing cold feet walking barefoot along the poles! Mud, sand and water were pleasantly warm. Fantastic day. Thankyou Patrick!!
