We did a half day tour focused on Hadrian's wall and the Roman soldiers barracked nearby. Alex was a font of knowledge about the time period and Roman history in general. There was no question too difficult for him! He was unfailingly polite and was clearly enthusiastic about the subject matter. I would highly recommend him.

Outstanding three-day tour with Alex for our large group - starting in Edinburgh through the Northumberland Coast to Newcastle and Hadrian’s Wall. Alex took us on a day-tour of Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle from Newcastle. He was absolutely wonderful both as driver and tourist guide: passionate about the local history (which he was able to explain while driving too!), very competent, professional, and patient. He seems to never get tired. He was very attentive to our needs and answered all our questions. We really recommend his tour to people interested in visiting these sights, especially Lindisfarne because you need to carefully observe the tide times and weather conditions to know when it’s safe to access the island.

I had an absolutely wonderful time touring Hadrian’s Wall with Alex and Tommy. They were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and went out of their way to tailor the tour to my own (sometimes idiosyncratic) interests. I especially appreciated how they would take time to orient me both spatially and temporally (the areas surrounding the wall had an eventful history after the Romans left) which no guidebook could replicate. My only regret is that I did not have the time to go on one of their other tours!

Another brilliant tour with Alex! We enjoyed our first one, “ Old Newcastle “ so much that we booked the “Gory Tour” when friends came to visit. We all loved it, Alex is so informative, and erudite, while also being really good fun and humorous. A rare combination! We’ve had to promise our friends to invite them back and do another tour.
