Visited here whilst in Princetown, the lovely lady behind the counter was extremely helpful and informative. She explained where everything was without being overbearing. There were lots for children to do, dress up in the prison outfit with a small board (more than the actual prison museum) and a great exhibition bit on the Hound of the Baskervilles. It will be a real shame to the National Park if this visitor centre is to close.

Amazing place...full of visitors seeking information when I went...I CANT BELIEVE ITS GOING TO CLOSE...how stingy of the Duchy not to pay for repairs when this centre is so good for visitors. Why can't the Duchy and Dartmoor National Park Authority come up with a solution? It's not like the Duchy is short of money.

Absolutely fantastic.
Wonderful staff. I visited an exhibition of local crafts which went ahead although the weather was dreadful.
There was story telling, painting, information about the landscape, local crafts.
I've heard the centre may close, which would be a travesty.
As a solo traveller, they were a great source of information and support.

Take a map. You can see lots from the road on the way up to Princetown. There is so much history here and there is so much to see on some of the circular walks. A map is advised and good walking boots/ shoes but we did it in trainers and in the height of summer and was lucky only to find one marginally boggy area. A lovely aquaduct going down with an impressive constant flow of water! We said the next walk we'd like to climb up and see where it's all coming from!!we were blessed with good weather on this occasion but the weather can turn so quickly up here so make sure you're prepared for whatever it might throw at you. It's a wonderful place to have a walk with family!!

Very friendly and helpful staff. The gentleman at reception went out of his way to help me and advised me on various walking trails, parking and food options. Excellent memorabilia on sale. Clean toilets. Plenty of parking behind the building for a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

We love Dartmoor and although we’ve been across the area quite often, we learned some interesting things about the nature and stories during our visit today. Entrance is free, and you can buy some nice things for your loved ones at home or just for yourself to remember your time in Dartmoor!
