Excellent place to visit the superbly preserved steam engine that was used on the incline. Engineering of the building and the engine is fantastic. Very knowledgeable volunteers on hand to show you round and explain the workings of the winding house. Engine wasn't running when I visited unfortunately but its hopefully going to be back in service in September.

Nice little cafe and visitors centre, we did the Tissington trail, then at Parsley Hay headed to Middleton Top. A really great ride of approx 25 miles one way in stunning surroundings.

There is a lot to do at Middleton Top on the High Peak Trail between Cromford and Wirksworth in the Peak District.
There is a cycle hire, tourist information, toilets and a car park.
It is a very good base to walk or cycle the High Peak Trail, an old railway line now used for recreation.

I cant comment on the visitor centre or cycle shop as we did not go in. Just a brief stop to look at the views. Some interesting displays describing how it was engineered.

Nice views if you care for a wander

Well worth the small fee to visit the winding engine shed. The staff know everything there is to know about the High Peak Line and will run the engine for you (it now runs on compressed air, not coal, but you can't have everything!) Great place.

Lovely walk, although you can hire bikes from there. Pay for parking, 3 hours (£3.50) or all day (£7.00) pay at the machine, it is a small car park.
