We came for the steam rally weekend. We had been told about the event whilst at lappa valley. My 2 and 6 yr olds were very excited to see the lappa valley trains they knew and to meet some new ones. Great value for money, we had lots of rides up and down, they loved waving at the passing trains and drivers. The staff were super friendly. Lots included in our tickets, unlimited train rides, jumping pillow, play ground, mini golf, carousel ride and at Shelly station there is another play ground, sand pit, toys to play with and free face painting. We had some yummy ice cream at Shelly station, and cake in the main cafe. The workshop was open, my eldest enjoyed seeing the trains being fixed, the engineers were happy to talk and explain the work. We paid extra to hold an owl, which was a lovely experience. Well worth the trip, which for us was 90mins each way. Great event.

It's a real shame you cannot purchase tickets from this stop to be able to go towards Clayton West as if this facility was available then there would be more opportunity for visitors to visit Clayton West before heading back towards Shelley. Its a real disappointment. Also, Shelley is a good 20 minute walk away down hill, and 20 mins walk back up a steep hill to this station.

Lovely day out with my 5 year old. Enjoyed the steam train ride, looking for dragons and gems and icecream. Fun in the parks at both stations and laughter by both of us on the bouncing pillows. A great day

Excellent location to visit. We've been twice for the Day out with Thomas event.

Lots to do. Different Thomas themed trains to ride and a miniature railway. Donkey riding. Play area with a climbing frame for infants and one for older children plus swings etc. Listen to the Station Master read a Thomas themed story (based in one of the tents) . Small bouncy castles. Table top Thomas railway track for kids to play with in another one the tents while you take a break.

Free parking on site and a short walk to gain entry. Staff are friendly. Plenty of places to eat. Picnic tables too at one end.

Certainly excellent value for money. Highly recommended

I've not been for years and came with my grandson. Amazing, the Thomas event was so good. Lots to do and a great team of people running it. Thanks for a great day.

What a great idea making the "Shelley Beach" for the summer at the end of the Kirklees Light Railway line. Great fun for little ones to play in the sand with buckets and spades plus toy windmills. There is also a bouncy castle and a giant snakes and ladders board and Connect 4. With a playground, cafe and clean toilets, this is a great place to take young children who will also enjoy the ride on the train as well.

I loved this place! Me, my husband and train mad 3yr old went. We all had a great time. Good value for money, and food was reasonably priced. Would happily go again.
