Santa special was great fun!
One minor issue was: they ask your kid’s age in advance but the gifts they gave us were for a much younger age. We were excited to see the big red santa sack but it turned out to be a disappointment. Also it was a long wait in the cold despite having timed tickets. All the rest was fab.

The miniature railway is great fun for all ages, it's not open often so if you see an open day it's a must visit.
Theres two loops, one had smaller diesel engines on a raised track and the second track which is longer runs on the lower track.
Both loops go around twice on slightly different routes.
The queue for the lower track went quickly as there was a lot of trains running and the trainS were longer. The queue for the higher route was much much longer and we only did this route twice.

The trains, you sit over the seats and feet rest on the bottom.

Parking is a nightmare but if you arrive early you can find a space.
The only downside is the buildings are quite run down, no second hand book shop any more either. However that's made up by the enthusiasm of some of the volunteers.

Good fun for young kids (note: babes in arms can't tide trains). A variety of different trains to ride on and, when we visited, an ice cream van and a food and coffee van. Tickets cover the whole session and allow as many trips as your kids want. All the staff very friendly and helpful, much waving at and from the trains. Relax in the little grassy park and picnic if you want. Parking is limited.

Great afternoon at the TDMR. We got soaked in the rain and managed to get on four of the five trains before it closed. Really impressed with the trains, tracks and how it's all organized.

Brilliant afternoon riding the trains on the two different. My kids had so much fun riding but also watching the trains on the bridge. There is a lovely coffee van with very tasty cakes. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Amazing place to have a great time, especially if your little one is crazy about trains like mine! They have the chance to ride miniature trains and all of them go crazy! A space for birthday parties is a green field that can host several parties at the same time. The kids run around, play and love absolutely everything! Such a great surprise!

Great place for the kids to come to meet Father Christmas - third year we've visited for the Santa's grotto - one of the best in the local area. Definitely recommend.

We visited on a bank holiday Monday, it was very busy but that was to be expected. Even though it was busy we didn't have to wait too long in the queues to go on a train. The trains are amazing and the staff are all very friendly. We had a fab afternoon. We will be going back!!
