I write as someone who was obliged to spend three hours helping an 80+ year old neighbour booked on a Dover UK departure around 1730hrs on Sunday 4th June from Dover. The neighbour had arranged for Saga to provide home-to-Dover transportation. She telephoned Saga Cruise lines on the preceding Friday to confirm her ground transportation and asked who should she call if the taxi did not arrive at the booked time - what prescience !!! 'Just 'phone this number [the number for making bookings] and we will be able to help' - except that office is closed on Sundays !!!!!!! She appealed to me to help. I tried numerous telephone lines posted on the web for Saga cruises but with no success. I began to 'smell a rat' when I saw how many other requests = 'how do I get in touch with Saga cruises' - had been posted by other internet users. No emergency numbers are posted on the web for Saga Cruises, yet this is an international, 24/7 operation targeted at senior citizens !!!! It is unacceptable and the CEO needs to carry the blame. I spent from 1110 hours trying to contact a human being before, by luck, finding an emergency duty officer [Kelly] who was very helping chasing the taxi company. 'Your taxi will be with you in 10 minutes' was confirmed at 1157hrs. 'Taxi company has confirmed that Mrs X has been collected', 'oh no she hasn't, she is still right here' was my reply. Finally after much more chasing by Kelly and agitation for my neighbour, who was now very fearful of missing her cruise, the taxi arrived at 1407hrs. The staff I did manage to speak were polite, helpful and made best efforts to help. The person who really needs to learn from this is the company CEO. If the main offices are to be closed on Sundays, something that I find an amazing decision for a 24/7 operation, it needs to promulgate prominently on the web [and staff] an emergency contact number. It was a thoroughly bad and inexcusable start to my neighbour's cruise and needs to be addressed with, at least, a grovelling apology.
