We stayed at the Avenue guest house in Shanklin. The accommodation was v. good and our hosts, Simon and Jonathan were more than helpful in many ways. The food was superb and the honesty bar was a nice touch, with a relaxing area to enjoy our drinks, thanks you smashing father and son team. Will definitely be our first choice when we return one day. The Island was full of great places to go, the Shanklin theatre, the Hideaway resturant, Alum bay and the cable car, the needles and its associated first and second war involvement. The rocket launch site there and the many other activities in the area. We were only there for a weekend, therefore our places of interest were limited. I must say, one other thing that stood out to us personally and seeing how others were treated was the bus service. The drivers were the most helpful to all, even coming upstairs to advise a family of their options, we were very impressed with their professionalism and knowledge, they were an absolute credit to the company and island as a whole and I would like to extend our thanks to them all, the main days for this experience was saturday 13th and sunday 14th April. Overall a great time, sorry to those I have missed out, there was not a person who did nothing short of making our time on the island a good one, see you all soon I hope.

What a shambles of Road closures and misleading diversions which took you towards yet more road closures. Yesterday we wanted to visit Ventnor but road closure after closure prohibited that delight and nearly missed last food orders at our hotel Today we wanted to visit the Isle of Wight Steam Railway but after 90 minutes of more road closures, some of them having sprung up overnight, we again gave up and went to Ryde. Cannot conceive how locals cope with these road closures and still keep their sanity.

Sorry but the island is very run down, with no trains running and so many road works that the roads a nearly grid locked most days. I found the pubs are charging top prices for meals and drinks compared to home also the car parks have boosted up prices, due to all this and the rip-off ferries I will not be returning after many past happy holidays

Paddington rather enjoys the Isle of Wight. More pictures will appear with recognisable landmarks.
If he doesn't get in too much trouble he may do review's from pub's and restaurants too!

Very enjoyable day out via Ryde Pier, the Island Line train, and some time on the seafront at Shankhill. Return by hovercraft because the Wightlink fast ferry was unserviceable.
