Would highly recommend the guided tour.
We were going to do the self-guided tour as wasn’t sure if it was our cup of tea but swapped to the guided tour & found it absolutely fascinating!
Esther & Roger were so knowledgeable & told us all about the history of the prison + all the gruesome nitty gritty bits (which I won’t ruin for you). You also get an hour after the tour to go around on your own.
Am keen to go back for the ghost tour now!

We wete given a birthday-present trip to Shepton Mallet prison for an escape room experience. The escape room itself was great fun, though our lack of experience meant we got more time on our sentence! After completing the room, you are free to do a self guided tour around the prison. It is an amazing experience, sometimes oppressive, sometimes moving and always full of fascinating historical details. We got a little lost in the maze of passages and cell blocks, and quite appropriately wondered if we would get out again. The staff were one of the best aspects of the visit, always enthusiastic, ready with captivating stories and good-humoured. Getting barked at by the commanding officer before we went into the escape room seemed entirely appropriate!

Absolutely amazing day out for the family, really wanted to do there evening ghost tour. Unfortunately children need to be 12+ to do it. But we will definitely go back.
