Situated on the edge of the village, on the road to the quarry cave, the drive up to the hostel is narrow with a big 180 degree bend just prior to the car park. There is a suggested parking plan on a tree, that you will probably miss, essentially you are asked to park quite close to the other cars, such that 10 cars can be squeezed in. You then fill in a contact card to leave in your car so you can be phoned if you are blocking anyone. Hostel was clean and comfortable with helpful staff with reception open from 17-2030. Breakfast can be ordered the night before and there was a well equipped kitchen, with complimentary milk available, although I didn’t see a microwave there. There is a water refill station just past the entrance. In the evening we walked into the village for a pub meal which is a 10-15 minute walk. Rooms and facilities fairly standard.

Room 4 was comfortable and well-heated, windows can be opened if necessary. There's a sink in the room (not drinking water) which was handy for brushing teeth and shaving. Several shower rooms and bathrooms down the hall with hot water (after a very short wait). Hostel wasn't very crowded so it was pretty quiet. Staff were really friendly and helpful and always ready to fix a tasty filter coffee for less than three quid. Didn't try food as I was often out first thing in the morning to catch a bus to Exeter (one a day), to Branscombe (tough walk back along coast path), Bridport (via Axminster Station), Lyme Regis and Seaton which seemed slow to wake up but had a Tesco and a Lidl as well as a nice cafe called Coast Cafe. Seaton Tramway was fun, nice walk around Colyton and in the Seaton Wetlands if you buy an Explorer ticket for the trams. 10/15 minute walk towards the beach brings you to plenty of bakeries, pubs, fish and chips shop and a well-stocked local store (closes at 6pm). The lack of crowds made it seem much more of a holiday.

We had a fab time. We came with another family and all stayed in a room for 5 which was an experience in itself. The team working at the hostel were great, really friendly and efficient, especially Rachel. Only down side was when some hungry cyclists ate all the lovely berries at breakfast one day before we got down to breakfast, but there was plenty else to have instead. Great location for exploring the Jurassic Coast

I have not stayed at this hostel due to their prices. I have the YHA annual membership and usually enjoy travelling around and visiting different hostels. However, when I checked the availability at YHA Beer, I almost fell off the chair! One night for 2 people at £160 per night?! Considering this price is not including breakfast, the room has bunk beds and shared bathrooms, it is appalling! I always thought the idea behind YHA (YOUTH Hostel Association) was great. But how is this affordable for most people? How is this going to encourage young people to travel? To explore the great outdoors? Absolutely disgusting! I hope it stays empty for these prices so the management will be forced to reconsider...

Lovely arts and crafts YHA on the edge of a beautiful little seaside village. Small and friendly. Had a nice ground floor private room, shared facilities and breakfast was good. Would visit again when in the area. Lots to do and see locally and lots of places to eat in Beer.

Beautiful Youth Hostel for families in an Arts and Crafts house with a large garden to explore, well maintained, warm and spotless. We stayed in an ensuite soon with 6 bunks, which delighted our 9 and 11 year olds. Warm welcome from the staff. Great alternative to the studio flats we could have rented for the weekend for the same price with access to the kitchen, dining room, lounge and garden. Lots to do in the area, walks, Beer’s hard working beach and attractions within walking distance. Highly recommend

Nice building, nice staff, and very close to the villege. However, the car park is too small and our room was too dark like a jail as there is only one tiny window.

Camped here for a few days in October and it was just lovely. Beautiful location with camping for 4 tents (& 2 fixed Yurts) just outside the main building. Car parking between the tents and the YHA. Great facilities. Beer and surroundings is lovely too!
