Thank you, Phil, for the trip you planned for us on the Trans Siberian Railway. It all went, as you predicted, without a hitch.
We travelled from 6 March 2018, Vladivostok, to 26 March 2018, Moscow, stopping in Irkutsk (and Lubyanka), Ulaanbataar (and Elstei Ger Camp)and Eckateringburg.
So much has changed from our first TS trip 1978, as we expected. I think they main thing is that the people seem happier, much more relaxed, there’s plenty of food and we were not being hassled. Much of ‘old Moscow’ has been restored to pre-Soviet times. There is evidence of excessive wealth in the cars, clothes and buildings, Putin’s Russia! Although cold, we preferred that there were fewer tourists. Moscow must be bedlam in the summer! And our memory of Russia in 1978 resembles what North Korea (except Pyongyang) is like now.

On the Trans Siberian Railway, there were very few people in the first class carriage, particularly Vladivostok to Irkutsk. The dining car had minimal offerings on the menu, and they were bringing food to the first class carriage. We ate in the dining car a few times, self catering for other meals.

You mentioned about showers being available on the train, and I saw the door of the shower cubicle in the dining car, but we didn’t use it, managing quite well with the very clean bathroom facilities and towels etc provided in our carriage.
We used the booklets you provided extensively.
All the local guides were great.
Very cold, particularly at night, in both Irkutsk and Listvyanka, snowing and very busy as it was a long weekend in Russia.
At the Elstei ger camp, we were the only guests. The camp’s caretakers looked after us very well. The food was served in a small dining room with about 6 tables and chairs. (We saw the large dining room used in the summer when they have about 50 gers set up. It was being used for furniture storage and drying mutton!) We enjoyed walking; there was snow on the ground which would melt during the day and freeze over again at night (maybe -14C at night).
Accommodation was very good everywhere!

We traveled from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar to Moscow to Saint Petersburg in July 2019. We had a fantastic trip and a wonderful time planning it with the TSTC. They were very accommodating to the type of trip we wanted and communicated any changes in the itinerary clearly. The hotels they set us up in were comfortable and conveniently located. The guides and tours were so professional and very informative. And of course the train was a great experience. We would recommend TSTC to anyone looking to do this once in a lifetime trip!

Chris made all the arrangements for our trip during February from Moscow to Hong Kong via Harbin and Beijing. Everything went smoothly and we were very happy with the choice of hotels and the service provided by transfer drivers and guides. We've recently returned from a trip on the Trans-Siberain railway from Moscow to Mongolia organised by The Trans-Siberian Travel Company. I really can't praise the organisation highly enough. A wonderful adventure full of rich experiences travelling from Moscow to Vladivostok, stopping off three times along the way.
