Incredible views and lots of information about the history of the place. The folks working in the reception building were pleasant and helpful. I would highly recommend spending £4 on the detailed guide they offer at the counter. Many pictures and illustrations, and details about the various things visible on the site. Was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Ancient historic site with origins in the Iron Age as a hillfort, subsequently the site of a Roman settlement, then a Norman castle and the original Salisbury cathedral.
The remaining structures are mostly limited to foundations and walls, but the earthworks are a very impressive example of their type. The high vantage point from Old Sarum offers great views in all directions, including over Salisbury and the new cathedral.
Old Sarum was abandoned due to political disagreements, poor water supply and inhospitable conditions compared to the lower lying location of present day Salisbury.
The guides in the ticket office were very enthusiastic, friendly and helpful and gave an interesting talk on the site's history before we explored at our own pace.
On-site facilities include parking, toilets, a gift shop with hot drinks machine and outdoor seating. Adult tickets are reasonably priced at £6.50, a slightly reduced rate for online advance bookings. The site is dog friendly.

We first visited nearly 9 years ago so it was overdue a re-visit. Lovely place to wander. It's not the biggest site and I think it could benefit from an audio guide. The car park is quite small so be aware of that.
Lots of information boards around the site.
Lovely members of staff in the shop/entrance hut.

Old Sarum Castle is a must visit if you're in Salisbury. The views are incredible and it's very humbling to walk through history when you're there. It's only nine pounds to enter and the cost supports the historical society. The gentleman who helped me with my ticket was very helpful and knowledgeable. Old Sarum Castle should not be missed.

Part of the Stonehenge tour. The walk from the bus stop is through a steep path. Small car with toilet facilities. Beautiful scenery and once inside you can see the ruins. Small shop at the entrance and there is also seating area.

Very interesting ancient site. FYI there are a couple of free car parking spaces on the road up to the English Heritage pay car park. You can park here to save on their car parking charge or when they close their car park at 5pm you can park there and still walk around both sides of the outer ramparts cost free. Toilets are in the car park and are locked in the evening. Entry charge is for the motte/high point with most of the ruins. Great views are to be had of the local countryside. I loved the Western section of the bailey. It's a very beautiful walk amongst large oak trees, butterflies and wild flowers.

Beautiful 360°views. Nicely placed informative signage of the historical features but also recommend buying the English heritage booklet for more in-depth history. Very friendly staff. Toilets available at the car park

An impressive site that is worth visiting. With much to see for young and old. Kids can do a treasure trail around the site that is free, unlike some of the ‘National Trust’ sites.

Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Toilets accessible from car park.
