Yoshi and John are a lovely friendly couple and could not have been more accommodating and helpful throughout the process of booking and during our stay.||||We stayed as a group of friends cycling the c2c route. During booking i was delighted that John would accept our bags slightly earlier as it meant we could travel light on day 1 of our bike ride.||This made such a difference to our holiday as other cyclists will especially appreciate. Our cycles were stored safely for us too.||||The accommodation is quaint due to the age of the property. ||As a party we filled all the rooms, a double room, and both twin rooms. Our only comment would be that the double bed was not that comfy so this would be our only suggestion.||||Upon arrival Yoshi made us a fresh coffee and we received a small cake each. Such a lovely touch and due to prior correspondence, I felt like she was welcoming a friend.||||We were able to choose the time of our breakfast which was perfect for us all as we were heading off onto our next stop. Fresh coffee and breakfast was a perfect set up for the day of cycling. ||||Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts, we would not hesitate to recommend and will definitely call in when passing again.||||Thanks both for all your help and hospitality, we all appreciate your efforts.

We were really looking forward to staying here as the write ups were so favourable and it looked to be a very interesting old building. We should have taken note of the faded and peeling paint on the front of the Tea Rooms! We met the owner Yoshi who was lovely and she led us down a side road and into a dark untidy cobbled yard at the back of the premises that screamed neglect. Spook Cottage was our destination and the twin room we had booked. We were shown into a dark, dank, musty smelling hall that contained an old table football table with a rough wooden cover. We were told that only we had access to this area although there were several doors, one was marked private (presumably to the hosts area) and had a cat flap as did the outside door we also saw the cat that used them. Our room was reminiscent of a cheap pack packers’ hostel with two low beds with bedding that felt unaired and one very thin pillow each, a scruffy mat between them. There was a tray with a kettle and drink making facilities and WiFi but there were no drawers and the only hanging space was four hooks on the wall with a few coat hangers and nowhere other than the beds to sit. The room was grubby and had not been properly cleaned, if at all, with dust, grit and cobwebs. The whole area was poorly maintained and the work that had been done was shoddy, in fact it needed a complete refurbishment. The shower room and toilet can only be described as subterranean as they were either the cellar or undercroft with no outside light. The shower however appeared to be very clean. The toilet was not suitable for anyone who feels claustrophobic. There was no lock on the bathroom door or the bedroom door, rather a hook and eye right at the top of the door which was hard to reach if you were under 5’5” and on tip toe, they provided dubious privacy. There were no toiletries and the towels didn’t invite use. We were then shown to the Tea Rooms where we were to have our breakfast, which again had the air of neglect and had the appearance of having been shut for several years with a layer of dust and grime on everything. We were not relishing the prospect of eating there. We were debating the best course of action when we were saved by a small family crisis which we were only too happy to attend, saved by the bell you might say! Old premises have their issues, I know I have lived in old buildings but this was a lack of cleanliness and maintenance. Proceed with caution – preferably in the opposite direction!

We had a selection of eateries to choose from despite it being low season on Sunday but stumbled across this lovely little place. I have to say we were a bit worried about the decor and darkness but needless to say we were so glad to have stayed. The filter coffee was lovely, its nice to get a fresh brew instead of the usual Americano etc. The scones were amazing and the owners deserve to do well.|Thanks for a nice rest.

I was in Harrogate flat hunting and the Sweetheart b@b was the least expensive place around. Worth going the distance really just for the bus journey through the beautiful Nidderdale. The bonuses for me were I like cats and though the landlady was concerned I might not like cats I enjoyed Wizzle coming into my room, one night all night, on the nationwide tour with cat in each hotel or b&b app this being my latest; saves the cats travelling which not all do and one has all the usual benefits of a quality feline friend at each stop. Tucked away behind the worlds oldest sweet shop you HAVE to buy a quarter of Pateley Pebbles and book in advance during occasional military operations (I saw a lot of marching, RAF and other stuff). The room has no lock which I liked same as the Pen-y-gwryd Everest base camp hotel in Snowdonia (request cat) but the outside door does. Lovely tucked away courtyard the large village small town itself tucked away as deep as you get in Yorkshire.|More than ample very high quality shopping it’s really a small town or if it’s a village it’s a bit of a New York London Paris Munich Pateley Bridge thing on the shopping front both pubs have excellent food much higher quality for the price than I am used to real ale, Guinness West Indies Porter one 1 minute walk away in former HM Excise Office The Crown Hotel the Royal Oak about 10 minutes walk and then the friendly Pateley Club opposite, I was not a member but when I asked if I could come in late the pubs closed they let me with a quid in the charity bucket: large cans of ice cold right forefinger down side of can Robert Mills-style Carlsberg Special Brew. Breakfast in the Sweethearts own tea room, very quaint. You can’t get further from the escalator at Tottenham Court Tube London on the British and Irish Isles than the Sweetheart…

We stayed here on the 12th of August 2022. The couple who live here and look after the Sweetheart House we're so welcoming and lovely people. The room we stayed in was dreadful the building was built in 1661 and has stayed in the 17th century ever since. I think the window in the Spooks Room (the room we stayed in) was last cleaned in 1661. We paid £95 for one night we could have gone to The Willow for £85 which is beautiful. I find it difficult to believe I sleeped in this room at the Sweetheart House. Breakfast there was good in all fairness, thank god we only booked one night.

It's all about the hosts and they could not have been nicer or more fun. Our room had it's own entry and was in a very old building with thick stone walls but was clean and comfortable. They can even arrange dinner at night for a great price and it is very good indeed. Can't wait to go back and Pateley bridge is lovely and a great base to go exploring from

Very poor service offered by the hosts. They were very rude. We had organised with them in advance about our booking and the terms and they had agreed to it via email, hence there is proof.

We had booked accommodation to just change our clothes as we were attending a wedding locally . It was clarified with the hosts that 6 of us are coming to just change our clothes and none of us would be staying overnight . The plan was to check out in a few hours.
We had asked the hosts that if this is not permissable I will cancel my booking and look elsewhere. They messaged me to say that they have no problem with this request
On the day they changed their mind which meant that other members of my family were left without a hotel room. The male host Hung up the phone on me whilst I was speaking to him to find directions .
They kept saying we were changing our minds, when we had only asked for two requests that they agreed on In advance.
They were very unprofessional and wanted us to cancel our booking on the day when we arrived . This would be impossible to do with my 1.5 year old daughter.
Only when we challenged them that their email stated they were happy with the request, they only let two people and the child . This left my elderly 80 year old grandmother having to make alternate arrangements last minute .
We were left very upset and disappointed by the whole experience.

Cappuccinos were disappointing and the cakes, although tasting quite nice, were relatively (compared to other local cafes) small. Pleasant enough welcome but didn't feel the drinks and cakes warranted the prices. Note that unless you pay cash, there is now an additional 50p charge for paying by card.
