Magnolia cottage is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location towards the top of the island, providing a wonderfully peaceful retreat to return to at the end of the day.

Our booking included two beautiful bedrooms which was great for two couples especially since our one included its own sink thus providing separate areas to do things like clean teeth etc in the morning, but the new ads show that is changing to a single bedroom and a pull-out sofa in the living room.

The location in many ways is idyllic since there is a nature trail, winery, bulb farm and the wonderful Longstone cafe all on its doorstep, and Pelistry beach is uphill from the cottage but only a mile away so not much further.

However, if you are arriving by boat, I would recommend you book a taxi in advance as it took us roughly 35 minutes each time to walk down to Hugh Town and between 40-45 minutes to walk back up, rather than the 20-30 minutes it stated on the advert, which might be possible for younger, fitter people but not for everyone as while it’s over roads and footpaths for the start of the journey it includes rough terrain for the latter part of the walk.

That proved to be particularly problematic when our son and his girlfriend arrived by boat and could not get a taxi, since it resulted in us having to walk down to collect them followed by a walk back pulling and carrying heavy cases and shopping (as the supermarkets are also in Hugh town and we were in part self-catering). I can’t recommend the walk back after eating a heavy supper in town either.

I apologise if this sounds negative, it’s not meant to be, the cottage is very comfortable, and my husband and I had a lovely time there enjoying the central location which let us find places we wouldn’t have found had we have been in town. It certainly gave us a great opportunity to walk around the whole island over the week we were there, and while it didn’t suit everyone in our party, we would be happy to return if it was just the two of us.

The flat we stayed in was amazing. So well equipped, extremely well presented and luxurious. The bed was really comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. There was even dish washer tabs, washing powder and washing up liquid. Overall 5 star

We stayed at 2 The Wrasse. Perfect for a couple. Centrally located for easy access to quay, beaches and town amenities. Clean and tidy and comfortable. Good value for money. The team were very helpful and friendly to deal with. Would recommend to friends and family.

What a fantastic cottage. It had all the amenities we could ask for. A lovely outside terrace with a great view.
Abby, from Scilly Escapes was brilliant ensuring all was good for us.
Excellent local beer from the camp site shop obscures the view in my photo, our dog loved being in Holly Cottage as well as walks and boat trips around the islands.

Stunning barn in a lovely location, very peaceful and relaxing. The barn is very homely and well equipped, 20 mins walk into old town where you will find a lovely old pub, cafe and amazing Thai restaurant, we hired bikes to cycle around the island, which was fun. The owners were very friendly and hospitable, thanks for a lovely stay. we would highly recommend orchard barn.
